Kent School District No. 415 Director District No. 4

No Salary, some districts offer small per diem for evening meetings. School Board Members are the elected governing body of the school district, with responsibilities that fall in four major areas: Vision – focuses the work on student achievement through a comprehensive strategic planning process; Structure – provides prudent financial planning and oversight; diligent and innovative policymaking; Accountability – sets specific goals and a process for evaluation, reporting and recommendations for improvements; and Advocacy – champions public education in the local community and before state and federal policy makers. The School Board sets the general policies of the district.

Experience (300 characters max) 20+ year Federal employee, I know all about functioning in dysfunction. Operating with an ever changing budget, policies and being flexible with a goal post that is always changing.
Phones need to be out of site and out of mind. There are enough distractions to learning as it is. Students and staff need to be responsible as peers and role models.
Clear and attainable goals, finding where poor spending habits can be eliminated. Ensuring there is public trust before asking for more funds. Not to find gimmicks or to all the public to do more
Ensuring every student gets a quality education. Retaining and attracting great educators and staff. To always be growing and excelling, not to go backwards.
Be open and actually transparent. To take the bad with the good, and to always work on improving.
