School Board Members are the elected governing body of the school district, with responsibilities that fall in four major areas: Vision – focuses the work on student achievement through a comprehensive strategic planning process; Structure – provides prudent financial planning and oversight; diligent and innovative policymaking; Accountability – sets specific goals and a process for evaluation, reporting and recommendations for improvements; and Advocacy – champions public education in the local community and before state and federal policy makers. Experience (300 characters max) Two terms as Student Body President at Olympic College, advocating for student resources and campus equity. Legislative Assistant to Rep. Tarra Simmons and former Rep. Sherry Appleton, helping shape policy and connect constituents with services.
My experience spans leadership, advocacy, and service — all of which have prepared me to serve effectively on the Bremerton School Board. As Student Body President at Olympic College, I represented students’ voices to college leadership and the Board of Trustees, managed a multi-million dollar student government budget, and led a team of Vice Presidents. My professional background includes roles in the Washington State Legislature and in community health outreach, giving me insight into policy-making, resource management, and the intersection of education with community well-being. I also serve on local and state committees focused on transportation, equity, and disability access. As a U.S. Army veteran and a parent, I bring lived experience, strong ethics, and a deep commitment to public service.
Budget Uncertainty and Resource Allocation is one of the pressing issues that the Bremerton School District is facing. With funding cuts at the state and national levels, including efforts to weaken public education infrastructure, it's critical to protect essential student programs and staff.

Equity and Inclusion is the second pressing issue. While policies exist, we must ensure they’re actively implemented to support all students — regardless of race, gender, ability, or background.

Family Engagement and Transparency is the last pressing issue. There’s growing concern about parents being left out of key decisions. The district must improve trust and communication between schools and families.
The most urgent issue is budget and resource allocation. I would respond by working collaboratively with the board and administration to ensure financial decisions prioritize classroom needs, student support services, and staff retention. With training in budgeting and public service experience, I will ask tough questions, advocate for transparency, and ensure equity is a guiding principle. I also support actively involving families and community stakeholders in the budgeting process to rebuild trust and ensure we are responsibly stewarding public funds.
Student safety includes physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. I support ongoing investment in mental health services, anti-bullying initiatives, and culturally competent staff training. We must review and refine school safety protocols in collaboration with local law enforcement, mental health professionals, and educators. I also believe in trauma-informed approaches that consider the diverse experiences students bring into the classroom. Most importantly, I would advocate for listening directly to students and families about what safety means to them.
Balancing these interests starts with transparency, active listening, and equity. I would advocate for regular opportunities for input from all stakeholders — through town halls, student advisory councils, and community forums. I bring experience in leadership that values collaborative decision-making, and I understand how to bridge gaps between groups with different needs. Every policy and budget decision should be viewed through the lens of how it supports student outcomes while respecting and supporting the roles of educators and engaging families as partners in learning.
