I’m Hussein Anani, a Dearborn Heights resident, small business owner, and the eldest of eight children. I’ve spent my life learning hard work, responsibility, and service. Working in construction, I’ve led teams, managed complex budgets, and delivered real results. I’m running for mayor because I’m tired of seeing the same problems—flooded homes, crumbling roads, unfair bills—and I'm ready to address them. I’ll bring transparency, fiscal discipline, and a commitment to serve every resident, not just the connected few. It’s time for a mayor who shows up, listens, and gets the job done.
Dearborn Heights needs leadership that listens and acts. I’ll tackle flooding through smart stormwater upgrades, repair roads using real data, and modernize our water system so residents get fair, accurate bills. I’ll launch a public transparency portal, hold monthly town halls, and make sure every dollar serves the people. To address reckless driving, I’ll offer free teen driver education, improve signage, and enforce traffic laws in high-risk areas. It’s time for real solutions—not patchwork fixes.
Our biggest budget challenge is making sure tax dollars actually serve residents. Too much is wasted on no-bid contracts, inefficient projects, and behind-closed-doors decisions. I’ll change that by tying every dollar to public goals—like flood prevention, road repairs, and fair water billing—and holding vendors accountable. We’ll prioritize what matters most: safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and a city government that works for all of us.
Transparency starts with showing residents exactly where their money goes. I’ll launch a public-facing portal with real-time spending, project updates, and contract details. Residents will see how decisions are made, what’s underway, and how tax dollars are used. I’ll also hold monthly town halls, post meeting documents online, and build a culture of openness and accountability. City Hall should work for the people—and they deserve to see how it’s done.
We need to fund what residents actually need: flood prevention, road repairs that prioritize safety and fairness, and water system upgrades that ensure accurate, fair billing. I’ll also invest in safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and public spaces that bring us together. Every dollar must go toward projects that improve daily life for residents—no more waste, no more excuses. Our budget will be a blueprint for action, transparency, and real results.
Traffic safety is about protecting families. I’ll expand traffic calming measures like speed humps, improve signage in high-risk areas, and launch a free driver education program for teens. We’ll use real data to target problem zones and work closely with residents and police to design safer streets. I’ll ensure public input drives our safety plans, because no one knows a neighborhood better than the people who live there. Together, we’ll make our streets safer and more livable for all.

My background is Business Management. I worked in the banking industry for over 20 years. I have leadership, management and strong financial background. I am eager to bring my leadership experience, professionalism, maturity and business expertise to serve the best interest of our residents.
My priority issues are Public safety; by hiring more police officers, updating technology in their vehicles and providing them with top police force equipment. Budget; by providing master plan for the city with individual report for each plan and prioritize most needed to be worked on. Transparency; I will focus on communication, data sharing, and citizen engagement. Providing clear and understandable financial reports, and making information readily accessible online.
The most important budgetary challenge will be improving our outdated infrastructure. Our roads and over capacitated sewer system.
I will ensure transparency by focusing on data sharing, communication and citizen engagement. I will make information readily accessible to all.
The city’s funding will focus on public safety, infrastructure, flood mitigation, and ensuring the budget is always balanced and has a healthy rainy day fund.
Traffic violation will be addressed by fully staffing a traffic division and holding people accountable with a zero tolerance policy.

As a longtime resident of Dearborn Heights, a small-business owner, Wayne County Sheriff Reserve Officer, and City Council Chair, I have a deep understanding of our community. My education in public administration, along with my practical experience, prepares me to continue addressing blight, enhancing public safety, and modernizing city services. I am committed to serving you effectively as your Mayor.
I’m committed to improving public safety by addressing reckless driving and enhancing neighborhood services. My plan includes upgrading city services by implementing new technologies. I'll also confront blight by enforcing stricter regulations and ramping up inspections. These practical steps help elevate the quality of life for our residents and ensure our city effectively meets community needs. With the right leadership, we can make our neighborhoods cleaner, safer, and more responsive to the people who live in them.
One of our biggest challenges is how to effectively invest in essential services and infrastructure without imposing heavy taxes on our community. To tackle this issue, I will continue supporting the implementation of technologies such as smart meters that help reduce costs. Additionally, I will actively pursue state and federal grants to bring more resources to our city. Finally, I plan to streamline our city operations to enhance efficiency and make sure we are getting the most out of every dollar spent. This approach will improve services while keeping taxes fair and manageable.
I plan to create an open data portal where residents can access real-time updates about budgets, projects, and how our city operates. Additionally, I will hold regular town halls and maintain open lines of communication with the community. This approach will promote transparency and accountability, helping to build stronger trust between the city and its residents.
We need to focus our funding on several key priorities: enhancing public safety staffing, investing in water infrastructure improvements such as the new smart meters, modernizing city services digitally, enforcing blight effectively, and promoting responsible economic growth that benefits everyone in our community. By investing in these areas, we can create a safer, more efficient, and prosperous environment for all residents.
I plan to increase police staffing and focus on specific enforcement actions aimed at speeding and reckless driving. This includes installing speed humps in critical areas and launching community education campaigns about road safety. I will also launch a 100-day reckless driving crackdown campaign to send a clear message that unsafe driving won’t be tolerated. It's personal for me to protect our residents; improving traffic safety is a top priority. We will ensure consistent enforcement of traffic laws, holding speeders accountable to deter future violations.

Dearborn Heights Interm Mayor, City Council Chair, AT&T Retired, Real Estate agent 1993-2012, CWA Chief Union Steward 1986-2000, Madonna University Graduate - business admin, Member St Linus Church since 1962. Each of these qualifications brings a unique and distinct wealth of knowledge. Interm Mayor & City Council helped me see the day to day function of the city. AT&T enabled me to be able to speak to anyone about anything and to diffuse irate situations while remaining calm. Real Estate helped me to understand the different trends affect our community. My union experience enabled me to be able to negotiate and come to a fair solution for both sides.
PUBLIC SAFETY- I will work closely with the Police and Fire to make sure they have the most up to date training and equipment to ensure the safety of our residents. EQUITABLE CODE ENFORCEMENT- I will work with the ordinance department to eliminate blight in a fair and equitable fashion to improve all of our property values. ECORSE CREEK- I will continue working to alleviate the flooding problems associated with ECORSE Creek. I will seek grants available to help lessen the problems associated with the flooding. KEEP WARREN VALLEY as a GOLF COURSE-Warren Valley is our biggest flood plain. I will maintain it as a golf course to protect our homes from flooding.
The first thing I will do is go over the budget to ensure it is balanced. There has been a lot of new positions created. There has also been a lot of raises given. Once I’m sure the budget is balanced and accurate I will look at it more closely to see if certain areas need more funds. As far as additional revenue I would hire a qualified grant writer to help us secure more funding.
It is in the best interest for everyone that there be transparency in government operations. I would communicate through the Dearborn Heights city hall website. I would be open to having town hall meetings where the residents will be able to address their concerns. Each area of our city has their own unique issues. It’s good that the residents get a chance to express these concerns. I am also actively involved in the city events and volunteering in the community. It gives me a chance to listen to the concerns of the residents in a different way.
1. We need to fully staff our police department to ensure the safety of our residents. 2. We need to add more ordinance officers to get the blight issue under control. 3. We need to come up with a plan on how to deal with the Ecorse Creek flooding. It has become a burden to many of our residents. Every time it rains the residents stress out over the possibility of a flood. We may not be able to stop the flooding completely but there are measures we can take to make it less stressful.
I would meet with our Judges and come up with a plan to strictly enforce the traffic tickets issued by our officers. If we have a reputation of being hard on traffic violations it will encourage people to obey the traffic laws when in Dearborn Heights. Everyone knows to be careful when driving through Ohio because of their reputation of giving out tickets. It seems like lately Dearborn Heights is in the news a lot lately for fatal accidents that could have been avoided. This needs to end before we lose any more loved ones.
