First Big Challenge is Funding. As a member of the Board, it will be my duty to make sure we aggressively and proactively work to maintain and increase funding for wrap around services. That being said, it will be important to make sure funding goes where its most effective, which is in the classroom and with the teachers. I will work with the Superintendent and his administrators to make sure all funding has efficacy and improves student learning.

Another big challenge is raising expectations. We need to work with faculty and administrators to challenge the students to better prepare them for their future and success. When schools lower expectations, it unfortunately reverberates and negatively impacts teacher, parents, and the community. We do this by giving teachers more autonomy and support where needed in the classroom.
Parental involvement in crucial for success and the teachers have been doing more and more to reach out to parents. We have newsletters, teacher communications, online teacher websites, etc, but we need to adapt. I would like to find funding to help open up school gymnasiums and auditoriums to the public for afterschool events. A safe place where parents, their children and schools can create a better community which will help push expectations higher.
