How will you use your prosecutorial discretion to create fair outcomes for both the public and the accused?
What skills and talents would you bring to the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney?
How can the Commonwealth’s Attorney improve the lives of residents in your community?
Explain your top three priorities if elected.
I will focus on prosecuting violent crimes and delivering justice for victims while prioritizing community engagement to help drive crime rates down. As a federal prosecutor, I led Project Safe Neighborhoods and founded the Hampton Roads Opioid Working Group. These programs focused on prevention and intervention so that at-risk individuals and people with addiction had pathways to avoid the criminal justice system and the resources to help them thrive.
Servant leadership. After serving in the Navy, I managed 60 federal prosecutors and staff for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Norfolk. I prosecuted hundreds of cases, delivered justice to victims and worked to keep our community safe. I also prioritized violence prevention by working with trusted community leaders to divert people from the justice system. I’ll foster a culture of teamwork, support prosecutors, and focus not just on prosecution, but on preventing crime before it happens.
The Commonwealth’s Attorney can improve the lives of the community by delivering justice to victims, holding serious offenders accountable, and prioritizing community violence prevention and intervention programs. This requires building a professional team with experienced prosecutors who can help junior staff develop and deliver justice to victims. We must work as a team with the Mayor, City Council, law enforcement, faith leaders, community based organizations, and others to create programs that prevent crime before it occurs and build a relationship of trust with the community we serve.
1) Focus on prosecuting violent crime while investing in violence prevention programs that stop crime before it happens and provide resources for at-risk individuals to be successful.
2) Build strong partnerships with local leaders, law enforcement, and community groups to improve public safety and trust because building public safety requires a team.
3) Depoliticize and professionalize the office through experienced leadership, developing junior staff, and a focus on fairness and justice.
