There are two main challenges. First is maintaining the balance between Boonton Township's bucolic nature while expanding opportunities for residents and businesses. This requires careful consideration of all land and building proposals in front of the Township Committee, something which has been somewhat lacking. For example, several years ago, the Township Committee permitted the development of a marijuana farm. While the farm has become a major revenue source for the Township, the quality of life for residents next to the farm has diminished due to the strong smell and increased vehicular traffic.
This leads to the second main challenge, the ossified thinking of the current Township Committee. There is a singular mindset among the members, virtually all motions are rubber-stamped and passed unanimously, many meetings last less than 15 minutes, and there is little to no communication from the Township to residents. A variety of issues face the town, such as vehicle and pedestrian safety, a lack of library services, and rather tepid support for our school system. I will bring a different and challenging perspective to what has become "business as usual."
As Production Stage Manager at the Metropolitan Opera and Treasurer/President of the American Guild of Musical Artists, I was accustomed to budgeting and managing large projects and bringing disparate groups together to achieve a common purpose, on or under budget and on time.
I would encourage businesses with low infrastructure requirements, traffic, and environmental impacts to come to Boonton Township.
I do not believe federal immigration policy has yet affected Boonton Township in a meaningful way.
There are opportunities for Boonton Township to minimize its carbon footprint. For example, solar panels could be installed on new construction, existing structures, and parking lots. If residents and business seek variances, the Township could look more favorably on those applications that include solar panel installation.
In addition, further oversight is needed on the types of chemicals residents and businesses use on their properties. For example, much of the Township is on well water, and the use of certain fertilizers and pesticides could negatively impact residents' drinking water.
The most important challenge facing Boonton Township is lack of transparency in how the current administration conducts even routine governing tasks.
For example, neighboring towns provide an annual Budget presentation to their residents. Boonton Township typically only published the full ~90 page budget, without comment. In 2025, after my fellow BT Democratic Committee members and I spoke out about this lack of transparency, the Township finally complied with N.J. Admin. Code § 5:30-3.8 and posted User Friendly Budgets.
Most importantly is the lack of transparency in how the newly added TerrAscend Cannabis Farm Tax Revenue is being allocated. To date, that $1.5-2.0M in annual revenue has been dedicated to an $11M Township Hall renovation, which was designed without any input from taxpayers. The new building is almost twice the size of neighboring, and similarly sized, Mountain Lakes.
Ironically, the taxpayers voted down an $11M renovation to Rockaway Valley School around the same time. We need to find a way to allocate some of the Cannabis Tax revenue to much need repairs at RVS.
My wife Lisa and I have lived in Boonton Township since 2000, raising our two sons here (RVS grads ’12 & ’15). As Cubmaster of Pack 69 for over five years, I gained a deep appreciation for the town’s history and natural beauty while sharing it with local scouts.
Inspired by the town’s beauty, small-town charm and strong community values, I am running for Township Committee Member to be a fresh voice to help set priorities within the township. Priorities that preserve the Township’s character and foster transparency between residents and elected officials - particularly on budget matters.
In my professional life, I work in business-to-business sales, collaborating with executives, actuaries, programmers and analysts in the Auto and Home Insurance sector. My experience building consensus and solving problems for customers has made me a trusted partner in the industry.
I am looking forward to leveraging my work ethic and familiarity with the Township’s leaders, residents, and values to get the same great results for the people of Boonton Township as I do for my business clients.
Our economy is sufficiently vibrant. It will feel even more so to the residents once I am on the Township Committee and help ensure that the Cannabis Farm Tax Revenue is allocated to benefit all Boonton Township residents.
Based on BT's demographics, the federal immigration policy has not affected us as directly as in neighboring communities. There are many small business owners in the township whose labor force (and revenues) may have been diminished due to enforcement or general fear of harassment. Similarly, there are residents who own apartments and rental units. They may have fewer renters, but school and property taxes still must be paid, so it would negatively affect them financially.
Regardless of the effect of these policies on Boonton Township, they are a blight on the principles espoused by the founders of this (always) great country; and the sentiment of the Statue of Liberty and the words upon it. And as my Irish forebearers could attest to; a blight on one field can quickly spread to the entire farm.
Boonton Township has very little public transportation infrastructure because we are mostly rural. As a Committee Member, I will protect our environment and ensure all projects uphold the highest standards of environmental quality, including protecting our wetlands, which represent a significant portion of land in the Township.
