1)Public Safety: I prioritized hiring and retaining the best law enforcement officers to optimize resources and provide public safety services at the highest level.
2)Awareness & Training: I maintain prioritizing training for autism awareness, de-escalation, use of force, mental health awareness/response, drone search & rescue all in conjunction with mandatory update trainings.
3)Community Outreach: Continuing to bring our downtown services to local communities (Project D.U.M.P), eroded license plate replacement events, providing meals during Thanksgiving (Turkey Roundup), Tree of Hope Program, Nursing Home Connection, Presents for Patients, Shop with a Cop during the holidays, Back-Pack School Supply Drives, Blood Drives and much more.
As Sheriff, my approach involves prioritizing the service of civil process using a customer service, tailored approach to serving legal papers in a discreet and efficient manner when appropriate.
My approach to serving warrants and court orders is to conduct a thorough review with adequate research that considers indicators such as mental health, medical needs, the safety of the individual(s) and the Deputy Sheriff(s) as well as the safety of the public when given the opportunity.
However high-risk warrants require research with the goal of mitigation, and should mitigation not be possible then my Office must provide professional service in a manner that is safest to the individual(s), law enforcement and the public.
Continuing to provide the tools and awareness to treat everyone with dignity in the safest manner. Adequate and proper assessment of the individual in our custody is critical to ensuring immediate response to physical and mental health needs.
As Sheriff, we train our personnel to exercise compassion and empathy for an individual while considering the factors of their situation as it relates to their well-being. Deputy Sheriffs are trained in mitigation and de-escalation techniques to diffuse potential or volatile situations.
Lastly, all involved Deputy Sheriffs are required to utilize all audio/video equipment (body cameras/in-vehicle cameras) available to capture interactions in an objective manner as a matter of full transparency.
