I will listen to my fellow board members with an open mind, ask questions respectfully, and express appreciation for the same. So long as we have the common interests of the students in mind, we should be able to collaborate, and to compromise.
Students are at the center of a school districts' mission, and must be the top priority. Teachers and staff serve our students, and can only do so to the best of their ability if they are well supported by the district. District families need quality services from the school for their kids, and good communication; if we can do those things, we are serving them well. District taxpayers deserve our diligence in doing all these things as efficiently and responsibly as possible.
Personal safety in the school environment is of the utmost concern, so policies that affect student safety should be frequently reviewed. This includes not only those that relate to bullying or vaping, but any policy which undermines the humanity of a student group. Recent Penn Manor policies which deny the existence of trans students harm this group and should be revisited.
Penn Manor has a great need to invest in replacement of current school buildings and some new facilities, based on its growing population. In order to do so responsibly, the district needs to begin putting those funds aside, towards debt service. Annual millage rate increases will need to be somewhat higher; how much will depend on how housing projects continue to develop.

If we were to win the election we will be in the minority on the board. That does not mean we cannot have an impact. We will look for common ground on issues where that ground exists and provide statistics and facts that support our opinions in places where common ground cannot be found. Even on issues we may be diametrically opposed we can still have an impact on the final decision with the way we present our argument. Working together and compromising is not a weakness but rather a foundation of our country.
All of these groups are essential to the community that is our school district. Ultimately all decisions a School Board makes needs to be with our students and their success in mind first. If decision are made this way, all other groups and their needs naturally follow from these decisions. Better facilities and working conditions are better for our students and lead to happier staff. Similarly, if decisions are made with cost cutting and taxes in mind first they often are not what is best for students and retroactively have to be fixed later. This ends up costing the tax payer more in the long run while also being detrimental to our students and community.
All students need to feel safe and that they belong in our schools, no matter the students background. The board needs to look at policies that make this true while avoiding policies that discriminate and isolate our students. The board should avoid making policies under political pressure that are not best for our students and distract from real issues that are facing our schools.
Penn Manor is in good financial shape and has managed to keep taxes at a relatively lower rate. While this on the surface is great, many needs are not being met by the district. Penn Manor has the worst student teacher ratio in the county and does not have full day Kindergarten. In addition, there are projections of many new houses and students coming to the district in the near future. The district needs to make sure it is intelligently raising money for these future students as well as having the funds on hand to meet it’s current students. Less money needs to be saved away in the large fund balance of the district and more spent on the kids it serves every day.

I understand that no one board member acts alone. It’s about working together. I’d focus on building relationships with the other members, even when we don’t agree on everything. I’m someone who listens first, looks for common ground, and always keeps the focus on what’s best for the students. At the end of the day, it’s not about winning an argument.
It’s about making good decisions for the kids, teacher/staff, and the community.
All of these groups are important, but if I had to choose, my top priority is the students. They’re the reason the school district exists in the first place. If we focus on giving students the best education possible, it naturally benefits families, honors the investment taxpayers make, and supports teachers and staff by giving them a system that works. However, I think it’s important to listen to everyone (families, staff, and community members) because a strong school district is built through collaboration and respect for all the people who are part of it.
I believe the school board’s job is to make sure all students feel safe, supported, and valued, not singled out or excluded. I do not think the board should be making policies that discriminate against certain groups of students. Every kid deserves to come to school knowing they belong and that the adults in charge are looking out for them. Our focus should be on meeting real student needs like academic support, mental health, and a safe environment, not creating division.
I understand that Penn Manor has kept taxes low, but that’s come at a cost. We’re falling behind in key areas like staff salaries, hiring enough support, and offering full-day kindergarten. With all the new development coming to the district, we need to be thinking long-term. If we want to keep providing a quality education and meet the needs of a growing community, we have to make sure the budget actually supports that.
