Lisa Colon for Controller
As County Controller my desire is to continue bringing the office into the modern era. One example is by becoming less reliant on paper. For example, encouraging our suppliers to select direct deposits vs. checks being mailed. Many employee hours are spent processing paper checks, stuffing the envelopes, mailing and paying the postage cost. Many Counties have gone completely paperless in the Controller’s Payroll and Accounts Payable division. They are seeing significant savings monetarily and employees are freed up to perform other tasks.
I also will continue to expand the audits of the County departments to ensure your tax dollars are used wisely and appropriately.
As I have faced these throughout life, whether it was a health challenge, a personnel issue or a personal conflict with friends or family, my most important step in dealing with it is to think before reacting. Being an active listener, reviewing factual information, considering the others view, and taking the time to observe the situation are just a few tools I use when faced with a challenge or conflict.
Before becoming Controller I worked in the office for several years. I believe this experience has proven invaluable as I was able to take the knowledge of the day-to-day tasks with me into my role as Controller. I have the firsthand knowledge and the educational background necessary to complete the various duties of Controller.
