Development and the environment. Newtown today looks different than it did in the late 1600s, or even the early 20th century. Newtown has made many good decisions about how to build and where to build. Some decisions on development from past boards are significantly less popular, and when I talk to Newtown residents, everyone tends to agree on what they dislike the most. My goal is to view development from the perspective of the residents. One of the great benefits of living in Newtown is access to stores and restaurants. Other towns in America have taken some creative approaches to continued growth, or revitalization, and I think we could look to those towns as models. Are there ways we can improve walkability, parking and traffic using existing models? I also believe we need to invest in the future, which means protecting open spaces. Many Newtown residents have expressed, with passion, a desire to keep the bypass as it is. I look forward to helping Newtown stay wonderful.
I am an avid motorcyclist. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state to ride through. On many of my rides, I will travel through small Pennsylvania towns and something I look for is the number of people I see outside. I am frequently out on beautiful weekend days, and will ride through towns and not see a single person outside. That is not Newtown. Newtown is vibrant. Drive, ride or walk through Newtown and you will see many people outside walking, jogging, biking. Our stores are busy. I appreciate this, and I appreciate that work needs to be done to keep Newtown vibrant. I would like to give back to the community by doing the work that keeps Newtown going. I would like to help enact the will of the people to keep Newtown a great place to live.
I have had a long career in software development. I believe many of the skills needed to be a successful software developer lend well to the work of being on the Newtown Board of Supervisors. Beyond actually writing code, a skill needed to create high quality software is listening. Listening to what the customer wants so they get the right product the first time. Listening to fellow team members to understand issues. I believe listening is critical to being a successful Board of Supervisors member, including listening to residents and fellow board members. Software development is most often performed as a team, and in my career I have developed and managed teams that were highly successful. For me, leading by example is the paramount, but also team building requires understanding how individuals fit so they can use their skills most effectively.I believe these skills will help me be a successful board member.
