Experience
12+ years planning and delivering digital project portfolios and managing IT departments, in the US and abroad. Started out working summers at Neshaminy's Purchasing department and later a software company serving schools, like Neshaminy, and non-profits.
I want to see our teachers on a fair, long-term contract that keeps the district competitive with our neighboring school districts and promotes a healthy work-life balance. I have heard opinions on salary and benefits, listened in on our School Board budget meetings, and followed up by reviewing the numbers provided by the State's 2023-24 report on all districts in the state. Neshaminy is slightly above average compared to our bordering districts for salaries of teachers (101%), professional personnel(101%), and administrators(104%). I believe the work-life balance requires the most attention, as class sizes are a significant concern as is a lack of a dedicated "prep" time for teachers. That's the negotiable area where we can most improve.
Yes, I have attended them in person and viewed some of the older meetings that are available online. I have made a point to educate myself on the workings of the current Board and to familiarize myself with the current members. The Board runs monthly board meetings to quickly review the latest updates from committee and work sessions, and to make major announcements. These serve as public feedback sessions though few attend. The greater work and policy debate and discussion occurs during the work and committee sessions, which are also open to the public, and reveal more detailed information such as on the forecasted budget for next year. I have found these sessions to be the most interesting and more valuable for their content.
In my certified PMP career, I have been responsible for the long-term planning and success of technical applications and the people who use them. This involves strategic thinking, resource allocation, and effective communication, all vital for an effective School Board Director. Public education is a very people-dependent service and much like my past projects, success or failure depends greatly on how well the people's needs and concerns are understood and addressed. My approach will be to actively listen to teachers, staff, parents, students, and my taxpaying neighbors. These connections will be critical as we face uncertainty and help me to apply my skills in planning and execution to contribute to the long-term success of the district.
