Because I care. Because we all matter. I have raised 5 children who all attended PMSD as well as my 3 grandchildren who are currently attending. Myself and family are homeowners and business owners in the community. I live and work in the townships, our district and community are important to me.
One of our biggest issues facing our school district are our school taxes. Nobody wants to see taxes go up. Including myself and the board. However, over the last 10+ years, our previous boards did not raise taxes. Unfortunately we have had to do so within the last 4 years. Not only are we a residental community, but a resort community as well. Our area is saturated with short term rentals. The state has a 6% occupancy tax in place and the county has 3%. I would like to see 1% , just a 1/2 % from each side be applied to our school districts. This, along with the taxes being paid from the larger commercial companies, can significantly lower our taxes. School taxes are important. The conditions of our buildings, the education of students, all play an important role in our property values. If our buildings and schools decline, eventually so will our property values. Lets use the resources we have (short term rental proerties) to lighten the burden for our homeowners.

I care. I have raised five children who have all attended the Pocono Mountain school district. I now have three grandchildren who attend. I care about our community, our students and our teachers.
The biggest issue facing our school district are taxes. We are living in a resort community and have the advantage of the large resorts paying their share of school taxes. However, I would like to see this go a step further. We live in an amazing vacation area. Our area is flooded with short term rentals. We need to start taking advantage of this. The state charges a 6% occupancy tax and the county charges a 3% on all short-term rentals. If we could add an additional 1% to this tax and put this towards local school districts as to where the short term rental is located, this would make a significant impact on our taxes. Another significant issue regarding taxes are charter schools. I am all for school choice, but not at the expense of the taxpayer. Pennsylvania is one of four states that the district pays for local students to attend a charter school. This should not be on the tax payer. The state should follow what other states do and relieve the districts from this expense.

I am a life long resident of the Pocono Mountain school district. I have over 40 years of experience in the construction field. Making me very knowledgeable and experienced for any capital projects or building and grounds needs. I am strong working with others to accomplish goals
I see private charter schools as very big issue by taking a large portion of funds from our budget. Keep working together with our state representatives to better allocate this funding.
