The #1 issue I hear about is taxes. Pennsylvania’s lack of mandated reassessments has led to long gaps between property value updates, shocking residents with an adjustment. Second, people don't know how the county works for them and feel unheard. Third, people are worried about making ends meet. The first step is really listening to a cross-section of residents.. Do they feel like their income does not meet their needs? Do they need support to appeal an unfair assessment? Are they struggling with child, health, or elder care costs? I plan to be active in my district, letting people know that I want to be their conduit to make government work for them, and pass legislation that addresses the complex issues they face.
My political origin story revolves around fighting a book challenge as Trustee of Moon Township Public Library. The library was inundated with email, phone calls, and our librarians were doxxed. Our local leaders did not find the threats credible and overtly said that the Public Library was at fault for pushing a liberal agenda. I fought for our librarians' duty to uphold the standards of the ALA. Not only was I reappointed to the library board, I was voted President 2x after that. By treating others with respect and focusing on the whole community, we can build bridges and grow understanding.

1. No new taxes. I would oppose any new taxes and vote against a property reassessment. 2. Public Safety—I would work to ensure we do not lose any services and that our Police, EMS, and Firefighters have the tools they need to do their job safely and return home each evening. 3. Community Health—health education, disease prevention, access to care, environmental health, mental health. I would discuss with stakeholders to determine where District 1 is effectively providing the services the community needs and where improvements can be made.
There are many ways to answer this thoughtful question; the method would be dictated by the situation. If time permits, one way is to create an environment where each person can be comfortable expressing their opinion without fear or interruption. I would encourage each person to speak to the issue at hand and actively listen to them. Next, I would seek to understand the different perspectives by stating what I understood them to be saying. Finally, I would actively look for areas of agreement and emphasize the collective benefit of finding a solution that incorporates different strengths.
