I graduated from Deer Lakes, where I was active in Silks, track, chorus, drama, and yearbook, while working part-time cleaning a bank. I worked and saved to put myself through college, earning a Secondary English degree with high honors. I was blessed to be able to raise my children here, and to have my grandchildren here, as well. I worked in daycare and taught at Huntington Learning Center before running my family business on Saxonburg Blvd. I have extensive experience in teaching, teacher training, educational testing, SAT prep, accounts payable & receivable, advertising, sales, and human resources.
I am behind new programing to bring grant money and corporate funding to our schools and to our community. We are behind the times on this, but it will make a considerate difference bridging the gap between funds and needs in our school district.
This is what I am hearing from door-knocking over the last several weeks, and it is in-line with my beliefs, as well. Curriculum selection should include the most truthful, unbiased information available to educate our students, giving them a firm foundation to be competitive in their next endeavor... be it competing for the best university, trade job, or business venture. Being an English/ Literature Major, I am against banning of books for any reason. I do, however, think the curriculum chosen (to be studied) should be age-appropriate, moderate, unbiased, and (need I say?) EDUCATIONAL.
