occupation Delaware County District Attorney
I have been a practicing lawyer for twenty five years and the twice elected District Attorney of Delaware County for the last five years. I believe therefore, that I am qualified to serve as a trial court judge by experience and temperament.
I have been a prosecutor fighting for justice in both Delaware County and federal courts. As District Attorney I am an officer of the court responsible for the prosecution of more than 5,000 criminal cases each year. I believe my career as a line prosecutor and as the elected DA give me the experience need to serve as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas.
The criminal justice system faces the constant challenge of balancing the rights of both victims and defendants. As District Attorney, I have striven to find that balance by initiating diversionary programs to hold low levels offenders accountable without gaining a criminal record, while that the same time ensuring prosecutors have the resources need to focus on preventing and punishing those who commit violent crimes. Using this holistic approach to criminal justice my office has played a large role in both reducing the inmate population at our county prison by more than 30% and reducing the number of shootings in the City of Chester by 54% over the last five years.

- 34 years of Daily Dedicated Courtroom Work & Experience serving Delco's poorest citizens & their families as a Public Defender.

- Deputy Director of Public Defender's Office last 8 years - daily supervising, directing, & administrating the 13th largest Pennsylvania Public Interest Law Firm with 80 employees (55 attorneys and 25 support staff).

-I have mentored over 25 of our attorneys by sitting 1st or 2nd chair during both jury & non-jury trials.

-I have handled every day for 34 years every kind of case from DUIs to homicides.
- Sat as an arbitration member (since 1984) and/or Chairman (since 1994) hearing, deciding, and rendering verdicts in well over 400 days of hearing numerous Civil Cases of every kind during my legal career.

-Represented well over 20,000 clients with every kind of charge, resolving those cases daily by non-trial dispositions whenever factually, legally & ethically appropriate, and always in the client's best interest.

- On the day of my graduation from law school, United States Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist was our commencement speaker. And ever since I have followed his advice, which was that "A good lawyer works so that if both sides walk away somewhat unhappy, then you have done a good job and a good day's work."
- The Court's most pressing current challenge is the volume of cases that need to be addressed on a daily basis. With a multitude of new cases being assigned every week to each judge, I will work daily to resolve them by either a settlement of the matters before me whenever possible, or a jury or non-jury trial.

- With over 34 years daily in one or more courtroom(s), appearing and practicing law before and learning from 52 prior Trial Judges in our Delaware County Court of Common Pleas, I have the daily experience and know how to resolve cases efficiently and effectively, keeping in mind the goals of getting to the truth and dispensing justice, so that the most serious cases can get the attention that they well deserve and need.
