Infrastructure is always a pressing issue. More people are moving in and we are having to extend services. The renovation of city hall is another issue. This will be done in phases to not put a damper on the tax payers.
I feel that the biggest qualification I hold is using common sense. I served as Mayor of Schulenburg from 1997-2000. I had no clue at that time what it took to run a city. I decided to run again two years ago with more knowledge behind me. A lot has changed in 25 years. The laws, cost of items, and the cultural of the residents. I have been a business owner for 32 years. I also work part-time for Flatonia ISD as the Child Nutrition Director. I have a budget, and working with the government there are constant changes.
The comments I have heard lately are about the repairs to City Hall, Swimming Pool renovations, conditions of the restrooms at Wolters Park and the ball fields at the Sports Complex. City Hall seems to be the top priority for the citizens. The swimming pool has been closed because of all of the mechanical parts being so old and cannot be replaced and the bottom line is that the pool is old and not in compliance anymore. I learned to swim in that pool, so it has a place in my heart. The restrooms at Wolters Park need to be redone and we a are looking at applying for a grant to help with this. The fields at the Sports Complex is an ongoing project. We host so many teams from out of town and different leagues that is becomes a challenge.
