A Business owner community leader and ordained minister. Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a minor in Political Science, I actively advocate for my community. As a member of the Westchester Economic Development Committee, I support small businesses, believing they are essential to our local economy. Founder of Sha-Poppin Gourmet, WOBE &"Motivational Mondays," combating cyber-bullying and advocating for suicide prevention, and earned the She-Ro Award in 2023 and 2024 for community efforts. Running for Trustee is a natural extension of my desire to create positive change and support our residents. I want to ensure that the voices of our community are heard and that we work collaboratively to address our needs and challenges.
The primary duties of a Trustee include making informed decisions that reflect the needs and aspirations of the community, helping to oversee the township budget and expenditures, and ensuring that local services meet the residents' expectations. It is also crucial to foster open communication between the government and constituents, advocate for economic development, and support initiatives that enhance the quality of life for all residents.
Transparency and accountability begin with communication. I will advocate to have regular updates accessable to residents about board decisions, budgets, and ongoing initiatives through public forums, newsletters, and social media. I will advocate for accessible town hall meetings where residents can voice their opinions, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussions. Additionally, I will work to ensure that all meeting agendas and minutes are readily available to the public.
One of the biggest challenges facing our Township is economic development and the support of small businesses, especially in today's rapidly changing environment. I will address this by leveraging my experience as a business owner to engage with local entrepreneurship and implement policies that promote local business growth. This includes exploring partnerships with existing businesses, creating incentives for new investments, and providing resources for business education and support.
I will actively encourage citizen engagement by establishing a feedback loop that allows residents to share their ideas, concerns, and suggestions. This could involve regular surveys, community workshops, and open forums where residents can express their views. Additionally, appointing a resident advisory board could help bridge the gap between the government and constituents, ensuring that diverse perspectives are included in the decision-making process.
Rebuilding trust starts with honesty and integrity in every action taken. I would lead by example, always prioritizing the needs of our residents over personal interests. Collaborating with my fellow Trustees will hinge on open dialogue and respect, fostering a culture where diverse opinions are valued. Outside of board meetings, I would facilitate community outreach events, "meet and greet" opportunities, and regular updates on initiatives, ensuring that residents feel connected and respected. By prioritizing relationship-building, we can create a more inclusive and trusting environment within our local government.
