A park board member is responsible for creating policies, overseeing the park’s finances, ensuring the community’s voices are being heard, and to meet monthly to vote on issues/operations at hand. It is a great responsibility to help manage policies and operations to set up the park district for continued success and growth.
As a fellow resident, I would like to see more growth for the park district. I would like to see certain areas expand to engage more members of our community. That would mean to invest in the future of the park district. I think the staff does amazing work maintaining our parks, but I believe we need to invest in expanding our facilities to ensure a successful future for all generations to come.
Environmental sustainability is essential to maintaining our parks. The park district staff already incorporates sustainable practices and are very conscience of protecting the environment. The last board meeting I attended we discussed the removal of an old playground and how it was recycled and disposed of. The staff made sure to recycle/upcycle/scrap as much as they possibly could to limit landfill waste. The park district staff also spoke about limiting the use of salt during the winter to conserve our earth. By asking these types of questions we’re able to make certain sustainable practices are being followed.
