Please describe the educational background, work experience, and other skills which uniquely qualify you for this position.

What do you consider to be the most important issues currently facing the Park District and how would you propose to address them?

What efforts can the Park District board take to educate the public about its mission, function, and responsibilities?

I am a music teacher at Peacock Middle School in Itasca where I have taught for 30 years. In addition to my years of teaching I have directed 30 musical productions that draw wide participation from all grades. I also teach a video class and serve as the faculty advisor for the video studio and daily school news broadcast I do have a history of community and park district service. My wife and I have been residents of Bloomingdale for over 20 years, and when my son joined Boy Scouts, I returned to my roots as an Eagle Scout, and served as an adult leader culminating as the Scoutmaster for Medinah Boy Scout Troop 95 for five years. I have volunteered with the Bloomingdale Barracudas swim team for 15 years and served as president for six years
The continuous review of current Park District programs, and the support of new initiatives as community interests and technology continue to change is a key issue facing the Park District Board. As a center of community engagement for over 60 years, the Board has a responsibility to support programs of interest for all ages in our community. By engaging and listening to the concerns and ideas of our neighbors and responsibly allocating Park District resources, we will ensure that the next 60 years will be even more successful.
In addition to the availability of Board agendas, minutes, and budgets on the Park District website, the Board members have a basic duty to maintain open meetings for all votes. Not only does the Bloomingdale Park District staff and Board have a tradition of proactively informing residents of potential changes to programs and facilities that may impact their use, the Executive Director holds annual community meetings to solicit input and ideas. Board members are encouraged to attend these meetings, and they often lead to discussions that can enact change.
