Serving on the Bloomingdale School District 13 Board has been an honor that I look forward to continuing. Not only is it the district where my children are growing up, but it’s also the same hallways I grew up in. As a former teacher, I bring a unique perspective to the board, ensuring we provide the right resources to thrive. With a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I am able to share my knowledge with my colleagues to make data-driven decisions, ensuring that students are achieving the desired outcomes. I’m deeply involved in the district beyond being a board member. I am a mom who volunteers in the schools and can see how the decisions the board makes translates to our kids. I will be a steady leader for our community.
I’m deeply committed to ensuring our children receive the best education in a safe, modern environment. Bloomingdale School District 13 took a significant step in passing the referendum last November, which will provide our students, teachers, and community with the school facilities they deserve. Many classrooms still look the same as when I attended, and now we have the chance to bring our schools into the 21st century. During the referendum process, I spoke to hundreds of residents and gained valuable insight into their expectations for the district. I am motivated to see the improvement projects through in all three schools, ensuring they comply with the state’s full-day kindergarten mandate and address our aging infrastructure.
Ultimately, the board’s role is to provide guidance, oversight, and accountability, while fostering an environment that promotes student growth and achievement. In a high performing district, such as ours, background in education allows me to navigate the data provided by state and local assessments. Our students show, through their test scores, that they are high achieving. I help educate my fellow board members in understanding the data and trends represented by standardized testing scores. As a team, we reflect on that data and are able to make decisions to support our staff. As a board member, I ensure students continue to excel and support our staff as they set the bar higher each year.
My primary goal is to clarify the district’s mission, reflect on its current performance, and ensure we maintain a healthy financial balance. The current budget reflects our ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility and student success. As a small but mighty district, we pride ourselves on financial stewardship, having earned multiple board financial governance awards. Each year, we collaborate closely with our school CSBO to ensure the budget prioritizes students first, while maintaining financial advocacy. My goal is to align resources with best practices and continue offering high-quality programs, even with financial constraints, ensuring we balance the needs of students and the taxpayers.
I fully support the district's commitment to diversity and equity, as these initiatives are essential for fostering a positive, inclusive environment for all students. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to our educational mission, guiding our strategic goals to provide a well-rounded learning experience, including academic achievement, social-emotional learning, character education, the arts, and extracurricular activities. I’m particularly proud of programs like the Better Together Club, which promotes inclusivity by uniting general and special education students. These efforts build empathy, understanding, and belonging, preparing students to succeed in a diverse world.
