For 25 years, I've been a proud resident of Maywood, raising my family here and building a successful career as a Realtor and Non-Profit Administrative Coordinator . I understand the challenges we face such as, aging infrastructure, the need for diverse housing options, and the importance of creating a safe and thriving environment for all. As your Village Trustee, I will be committed to: Prioritizing Infrastructure Improvements and Expanding Housing Opportunities: Working to Bridge the divide within our Community by creating open opportunities for everyone to participate. I been on the ground serving my community as a trusted voice and you can count on me to continue to be accountable and open and available to the community.
Policy and Ordinance Oversight, Trustees are involved in creating, reviewing, and updating village ordinances and policies, which directly impact real estate development. This includes zoning regulations, building codes, and land use policies. They participate in committees that address ordinance and policy matters. Planning and Development, zoning matters, code enforcement, and inspections. They review budgets related to development and oversee public property. Housing, Trustees are involved in policies related to housing, including fair housing practices, landlord registration, and initiatives to address housing needs. They may participate in collaborative efforts with other municipalities on housing and community development.
Financial stability and resource management. Sound financial management is the foundation upon which all other improvements are built. Without adequate resources and responsible spending, it's difficult to effectively address infrastructure, economic development, or community services. Financial instability can lead to a downward spiral, where limited resources further deteriorate existing problems. Restoring Public Trust: by conducting audits in a timely manner addressing financial issues transparently which can help restore public trust in village government. When residents see that their tax dollars are being used wisely, they are more likely to support other initiatives.
My plan focuses on sustainable growth and responsible resource management. Boost Economic Development: Attract businesses, fill vacant properties, and expand our tax base, lessening the burden on homeowners. Support Small Businesses: Encourage growth to create jobs and revenue, contributing to the tax base. Improve Aesthetics & Investment: Enhance property values through targeted improvements, encouraging investment and increasing tax revenue. Fiscal Responsibility: Implement careful budget reviews to ensure efficient spending of tax dollars.
To ensure residents' voices are heard, I'll prioritize accessible town halls, targeted surveys, and active resident-led committees. Open online platforms and direct communication will further enhance feedback. I'll strive for transparency, diverse representation, and meaningful input, fostering a culture of active engagement.
As an elected official, I strongly believe that a board retreat is a vital first step. Let's create a safe space to openly discuss our differences and concerns. By working through these issues internally, we can build a foundation of mutual understanding and respect. This will allow us to then present a unified front to the public, focusing on the shared goals we all agree on. It's essential that we resolve our internal disagreements before they become public disputes, ensuring we can effectively serve the residents of Maywood.

I have been a resident of Maywood for over 15 years. I am also a family physician and community activist that has dedicated my life to providing care to the underserved and fighting for the rights of those that have been opposed. After following the local politics in Maywood for over fifteen years. I didn't see the kind of leadership that I knew Maywood needed. So, I decided to run in order to create that type of change that I wanted to see..
The role of a Trustee in my opinion, is to is to serve as an intermediary between our local government and the residents and business owners in our community. The Village Board is the legislative branch of our local government. Which means that Trustees help to both make and amend the ordinances in order to help to run our community. The Village Board as a whole also manage and give directives to the Village Manage, which in turn is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the Village.
The top three residents' concerns are high property taxes, no local grocery stores and not enough small businesses. The reason why our taxes continue to increase, is due to the mismanagement of our tax dollars and the Village's over dependence on property taxes. Solution is to drastically cut overspending and put strategic measures in place, in order to make the Village stay within their budget. Like required quarterly budgetary reports and routine meetings to review spending habits . The solution to the last two problems requires the creation of a real small business community. If Maywood had a very strong small business community not only would that attract more customers to those businesses but larger investors and big box stores.
Another reasons why our property taxes are high, is because of the large amount of vacant commercial properties and mismanagement of our tax dollars. Since I already addressed my second answer in the previous question, I am only going to address the commercial real estate crisis. The first thing I would do is to spearhead and effort to determine who owns all of the vacant properties in the Maywood and determine whether or not the Village itself could temporarily take possession of them, in order to put them back on the tax role. The Village also needs to fix-up its own abandoned properties like the Widow Soldiers Home or the former site of the Maywood Market. If they did that, that could produce additional revenue for the Village.
After years of being ignored, we have to instill confidence back into the residents, in order to let them know that their voices really do matter. This can be done by restructuring how townhall meetings are currently being run. The second thing we can do is to bring back citizen led committees. Lastly, I would advocate for the creation of a citizen advisory committee in order to provide more oversight for active board members
I personally believe that foundation of trust is not based on what you say but rather what you do. So, if people see that you are trustworthy and dependable, then they will be more inclined to want to work with you. If elected to the board, I would be a very fair and approachable Trustee. As a board member overall, I plan to remain very grounded and neutral. However, I have no problem taking a firm stance on issues, that potentially could negatively affect our community. I know that everybody doesn't always see eye to eye on everything, but I do believe that we should at least try to see whether or not we could at least compromise. As a trustee I am open to working with everyone from small business owners to members of other boards
