The Village of Holmen can keep its appeal for residents and workers by looking ahead to the future to provide the services and infrastructure that is needed to create a positive community. We can also work towards this by seeking to attract the businesses that can provide the products and jobs needed by our residents. In terms of other ideas, we strive to maintain our parks and recreation programs as avenues to keeping that hometown quality of the village. A third focus is the planned growth of the community to allow for appropriate housing options and residential development so people can find suitable places to live.
We are ready to receive the results of a study of what kind of modern fire station is needed to meet our and the Town of Hollands needs given we are co-partners in the Holmen Area Fire District. So following up on the recommendations of that study are one priority. A second priority is to find the suitable solutions to meet our ongoing needs for water and sewer infrastructure as we plan for a new sewer line from the North end of our community. The third priority is the finalize our pursuit of the certified sites program with the State of Wisconsin for our northern business park to be able to market land there on a national and international level to attract suitable businesses to our area.
I think I have established a good working relationship with our administrator, fellow board members, and department heads. But I don't take that for granted. I interact regularly with each manager and board member to ask questions and seek input on what is needed to advance the goals of the village. Unlike a mayor which is the direct supervisor of department heads, I lead the elected village board and seek input from them and our village department heads to have the information needed to decide policy and budget issues.
The village is currently revising our comprehensive plan, the document that outlines what areas are appropriate for various types of activity (commercial, residential, industrial, agricultural). I will seek to review and approve that plan along with my fellow board members. As mentioned before, I will seek to understand the results of our fire department building study to find the appropriate location and design of that structure to meet our needs into the future. I will also seek to support the designation of our land in the northern business park as certified sites to attract the suitable businesses to build there and employ new workers.
