I'm Elizabeth Higgins- Beard. My friends call me Buffy, and I'm running to be your Milton Township Supervisor. As a local resident for over 20 years living in Milton Township and having grown up in DuPage County, I've raised my family here and I believe in this community.
I have a long and successful career in non-profit management. Most recently I was the CEO of a national charity helping youth, and before that, a senior leader at People's Resource Center locally. What I bring from those experiences is the ability to strategize, to create impactful programs, to work with boards and trustees, and to listen - to listen to you as neighbors for what is important to you.
I am running for office to bring solid leadership to Milton Township.
When elected, I will have two priorities. The first is to institute a forensic audit of the books. The Slate and I have spent a considerable amount of time going through past budgets and analyzing the finances of Milton Township. It's raised questions. They need to be answered.
I will also conduct a program review. Services offered right now at the township aren't clear. Our website explains who is in leadership rather than what the township does. Programs will be evaluated against current community needs and services. We’ll seek to have more neighbors supported during crisis, promote the 708 mental health board, and CERT. The goal will be to do core services, well, filling identified gaps in the community.
Governmental services exist to help you as neighbors, and this township needs to be a whole lot better at sharing its minutes, its agendas, its special meeting timings, as well as the results of those gatherings. It's time to modernize how communication is approached, and who can access that information. As a part of my campaign, I promise that we will make things available in as many languages as possible and in as timely a manner as possible.
We will operate with transparency, with accessibility in mind, and without personality and ego being the driving force. Right now, there's an unhealthy dynamic at the township. It is time for change. It's time to bring a level of professionalism back to this government office.
Your township exists to help neighbors in need, to repair and maintain the roads and infrastructure in unincorporated areas, and to assess your property value. That should all be done with high levels of customer service, integrity, and clear communication. I have the experience, the vision, and the background to take our township ahead. I ask you, vote for me, Elizabeth “Buffy” Higgins Beard to be your next Milton Township Supervisor.
