Hi! I'm Kirsten "Kiki" Djonne. I have lived in West Chicago for almost 7 years with my husband, kiddo and dog. I have been on the Turner Elementary Parent Teacher Organization for the last 6 years as the head of fundraising. While being on the PTO, I have run and found volunteers for book fairs, Holiday shops, dances, festivals, etc. I have been an election judge for 4 years. That has truly been an eye opening experience on how our elections are run. My daughter is moving onto Middle School next year. I will no longer be on the PTO. Sheila Rutledge tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I would run on her slate as a trustee. I thought about it for a couple days and realized it would be an honor to help my community in a bigger way.
I feel that we are severely lacking in Senior and Youth Services. Our seniors currently need to trek to Wayne Township. We could easily set up programs here in Winfield Township by utilizing our community centers and working together with them. I envision "Tech Time" sessions where high school students assist older adults with their phones and computers and help them understand evolving technology. This initiative aims to bridge the generational gap and build a stronger, more connected community. I would also like to establish tutoring programs for the kiddos, providing them with the support they need in challenging subjects and standardized test preparation like the SATs and ACTs.
In all of my current and past occupations(Waitress, hotel clerk, office secretary, massage therapist, hairstylist, English teacher, and group fitness instructor), I have worked with people. All kinds of people of all races, ethnicities, colors, backgrounds, etc. I love talking to people, getting to know them, and working with them. I will use what I have learned in all of those professions and in life in general, to work with the board. I also aim to have full transparency at our meetings. They will be recorded and put on YouTube. The minutes will be on the door for all to see after the meetings. The people of our township will always be welcome at meetings.
I have partnered with a group of dedicated candidates who collectively form our slate. Together, we have been collaborating and developing numerous innovative ideas that we are excited to implement. My name, again, is Kirsten "Kiki" Djonne and I am asking for your vote on or before April 1st. I would encourage you to also consider supporting the rest of our slate. Thank you for your support.

I live with my husband and two children, and we have been in Winfield Township for 11 years. I am running for Township Trustee because it is a small way that I can give back to the community that I love so much. I have years of volunteer work in my community. I was an active volunteer with the PTO at my children’s school for 6 years. I have also spent 6 years volunteering as a board member (former president, current secretary) of the West Chicago Parks Foundation. I also am a fluent Spanish speaker and am hoping that I can bring a new perspective to the board and a connection to the Latino community in our Township. I would love to see our Township thrive with more programming for our seniors and youth.
I believe that 2 of the most significant issues facing our community right now are a lack of services for our senior citizens, and our Township not doing enough to help those that are in need. As a Trustee I will vote yes on initiatives that bring back these services to our community rather than having our seniors travel to a different Township to access them. I would like to see us implement programs that provide social gatherings for seniors, help filling out Medicare paperwork, and tax prep help. I will work with other board members to identify funding sources for senior programs, including exploring grants and partnerships with local organizations. I would also like to have our website available in Spanish improving accessibility.
I believe that a healthy board requires both cooperation within the board and transparency with the community. To foster a collaborative environment, I will prioritize active listening, respectful dialogue and consensus building. We can get more done when we take time to listen to all the voices. I will advocate to have all our open meetings available for viewing online as a current resident. If residents do not have access to the meetings, they are not able to stay engaged or advocate for what their needs are. We are there to help our community, not make it more difficult for them. I will also push to have residents’ concerns promptly addressed. Transparency is about more than just access; it’s about responsiveness.
We all deserve a township where seniors are supported, families thrive, and everyone has access to resources. I believe that by working together, we can make this a reality. I'm asking for your support so I can bring my energy, experience, and commitment to the Township and help build the community we all deserve. Please consider voting for me, Rebecca Holmes as Township Trustee in the April 1st election.

I live in Winfield. My youngest daughter went to Winfield Central School, and she is currently loving life at West Chicago High School. We value our community and our wonderful neighbors. We are all facing an uncertain, but certainly challenging time. I want to do everything I can to ensure that our township is strong and that all the residents know where to turn when they need help or have concerns. I have over thirty years of experience and skills in community outreach, program development, counseling, and crisis intervention. I currently meet with individuals who are struggling with medical or physical challenges, to ensure that they have the resources needed to achieve their goals. I am also a proud union member.
Among the two most significant issues facing our community are the lack of programs and access to resources. These can be addressed by becoming more active with the development of senior and youth programs, accessing additional funding sources, increasing engagement with all members of our township, and building more community partnerships. My experience with program development, and being a previous business owner, has provided me with the skills to assist in these areas, including staying within a budget and identifying additional sources of funding, such as through grant applications. As a township, we can also improve our overall engagement by providing information in both Spanish and English and attending more community events.
Township is one of the earliest forms of democracy, which I value greatly. Without collegiality, it is extremely difficult to maintain democracy and achieve what the voters have elected their officials to accomplish. I have frequently worked as part of multidisciplinary teams, and I have completed hours of ethics and communication training for my graduate degree. While it is expected to have disagreements, it is never productive to be disrespectful toward other members of a board, and I will always hold myself and other board members to the expectation of mutual respect. I will also be transparent with the community regarding our activities and progress, and I will advocate that all monthly meetings are recorded and available for viewing.
If elected, it is my mission to make sure that every voice in this township has the opportunity to be heard, and that all residents feel supported and respected. I believe that when we pull each other up, we all become stronger. This is why I have gone to Washington DC with two national organizations, meeting in the offices of members of congress, advocating for the passage of bills that will ensure that basic needs, such as food, housing, safety, and access to quality education are met. This invaluable training in government, advocacy, and negotiating, are additional skills I will bring to this role. “Forward for all, together as one.” I look forward to serving all of our Winfield Township residents.
