I've had the pleasure of serving on the Parkland Foundation Board of Directors for the last eight years. My term ended in 2024 and when I heard there was going to be an opening for the Trustee Board, I jumped at the opportunity.
The current Board of Trustees and Parkland Leadership team are strong. I look forward to working closely with them on a number of different initiatives. My time on the Foundation Board allowed me to learn about the different scholarship opportunities available to Parkland students. While Parkland offers much lower tuition rates than public universities, we can lower the financial burden even further through these scholarships.

In 2023 the Parkland College Foundation hosted an Ag Industry Breakfast at Parkland College. I was the President of the Foundation Board at the time and was emcee for the event. The event brought together industry leaders in our community with our faculty. The meeting provided a platform for Parkland leadership and staff to hear about the staffing challenges facing the industry. In turn the staff was able to provide the industry leaders with information on the training and curriculum being offered to the students. It's important for the Foundation and the College to continue to have these discussions and make sure we properly prepare students to enter the workforce.
Recruiting and retaining employees is the key to any successful business, and Parkland College is no different. I'd start by focusing on employee retention. Hiring new employees is costly and time-consuming, so retaining good talent will be a top priority. In order to successfully retain talent, the Board must maintain open and effective communication with all College employees.
