Our high schools play a vital role in each of the communities we serve. Glenbard District 87 has seen significant improvement and growth. The board comprises committed community advocates, and the administrative team continuously strives to enhance learning and support for students. Continued success relies on effective leadership and a board that sets clear and consistent goals. I am running to remain a member of this board at the request of my fellow board members and the administrative team.
We have two major events in Glenbard - one emotional and another physical and emotional. First, we will transition superintendents, in the next few months Dr. Dave Larson will retire, and Ms. Jessica Santee will lead Glenbard into its future starting July 1. This is a significant transition, and we want to support Ms. Santee in her new role. We have confidence in our administrative and teaching staff to allow her the time to develop into this position, but nevertheless it is a transition. Second, we are about to embark on significant building changes at Glenbard East and West and then followed by Glenbard North and Glenbard South in subsequent years. In the Spring of 2024, the voters approved a 183-million-dollar referendum.
Fostering a collaborative and respectful environment within the school board is a priority. I consistently come to the board table prepared and ready for discussion. Our board focuses on student experience, encourages discussion, and promotes mutual respect and understanding among members.
I appreciate the league for offering this platform for voters to assess their options. Accurate information is crucial for our democracy, and I am participating in this process. Schools are shaping future voters, and the governance of public schools, where all children in the community can receive an education, exemplifies democratic principles.
