Illinois’ senior population is booming. Over the next five years, our state will add nearly 750,000 more residents aged 60 and older. With this demographic shift, we need leaders who will invest in our award-winning senior center, transportation services, and community programs that allow older adults to stay independent, active, and engaged. Nearly half of our community is rent-burdened and area rent has increased dramatically in the last four years. I want to ensure all eligible residents of Normal get the assistance they need when times are hard. Township also provides other essential services through funding vital community initiatives that must be maintained into the future to keep Normal thriving.
I am currently the Executive Director of a state-wide nonprofit powered by the labor movement whose mission is to ensure social and economic justice and full civil rights for all citizens so that they may enjoy dignity, personal fulfillment and family security as senior citizens. I am also an elected member of the McLean County Board representing District 4 for over two years now. I was appointed in 2024 to the Executive Committee and Chair of the Property Committee. My community service includes past president of West Bloomington Revitalization Project, steering committee member for the Central Illinois ACLU, member of Bloomington-Normal NAACP, and community organizer. Before politics, I spent 15 years in retail and property management
Our award-winning senior center has an excellent track record and the Decennial report lays out a roadmap to success for the next Township officials that I believe should be utilized. One of the barriers to aging in place for seniors is home maintenance and accessibility. I would love to see Township provide a home maintenance program for seniors and people with disabilities for small repairs and updates. The Township Hall needs improvements and modernization to better serve our staff, residents, and local area nonprofits who use the space. I also support continued expansion of green space at the ARC and investment in green energy like the solar panels at the ARC. I will work with staff on fundraising initiatives for major upgrades.
