I am a returning candidate for the office of Alderman, Ward 7, West Chicago, Il. I was elected to the office, if memory serves, in 2013, serving a full term before deciding to retire from active politics.
Since then, I offered my name to finish off the unexpired term of the Ward 7 Alderman who could not complete the term and was appointed by Mayor Pineda.
I am running for re-election so that I may actively serve my neighbors and constituents as West Chicago plans and transitions to an exciting future.
I bring Business acumen to government; I insist on cost cutting. I care about people, and I am a man of Faith and I am honored to serve my city, neighbors and constituents.
Rising costs and demands from the State make it difficult to maintain the level of service the city provides and not raise taxes.
Fix: rely on the talented and creative staff this city has, to find ways to continue to provide services with as little or no tax increases as possible.
Trending loss of population could cause us to lose our Home Rule Status.
Fix: Actively pursue Entertainment/office/distribution business and the population trend may reverse. With the road, airport, and train venues weaving through our city, it is distribution company’s dream. St. Charles, on any given warm night, has enviable foot traffic – much due to the varied live entertainment venues, as well as a myriad of restaurants and bars.
Actions speak louder than words. Set an example; after all, any elected official is by definition, a community leader.
In conclusion, I am eager to continue to serve my ward and give back to a community that has brought so much comfort and acceptance to my family. I want to continue to protect the expenditures of my constituent’s tax dollars and ensure they get the most service from those dollars in return. I want to continually be the conscience of government to protect and preserve individual rights and make West Chicago the first place anyone would think of when looking for a place to live and raise a family.

I've been an engineer for 27 years, and I bring the same methodical problem-solving mentality to everything I do. I'm running for office because I want to bring new approaches to the types of problems West Chicago faces today and in the future. As a resident who stood in front of a judge and defended my backyard kiddy pool, I understand what it's like to deal with the city and code violations. As a developer, my family purchased and renovated the Wiant House, and then went through the process of starting a business with Cocoa Notes Bakeshop. When we closed it down, I learned even more helping Kamila Cakes bring her dream to the new space. All these experiences and skills will help me excel on City Council.
1) The code compliance system has significant flaws, for example in the fact that a small minority of vocal people initiate the majority of complaints. I would bring this process into the open, clearly detailing the trail from complaint to fine, hearing, and judgement. With transparency, our community can decide if they agree with how the system should be enforced and what changes they may want.
2) The West Chicago population is projected to decline over the new few years, which will lead to less shopping, less investments, and a higher tax burden on those residents who are here. I would suggest focusing on finding a housing developer for the land where city hall is located, as it is the first step to reviving downtown.
The first step is going door to door talking to people and asking them if and how they would like to be involved. I've been doing this since January, and it shouldn't end when the campaign is over. I would start by bringing together a community of my Ward 7 constituents in any of the ways that they want to use, whether it be text, Facebook, Signal, Instagram, e-mail, Google Doc, smoke signals -- whatever makes sense. If the Aldermen each do this and faithfully represent the needs of the citizens in their ward, there will be a common bond that tie us together and encourages teamwork. As for continuing transparency, I will ensure every public hearing is announced in advance, not 1 day after it occurs.
My wife and I have been married 25 years, and we’ve raised our 3 kids in West Chicago over the last 20 years. Our family volunteers in the community, and we are firm believers in giving more than you take. While there is a lot of noise in national politics, the decisions made by your local officials are the ones that affect you on a day-to-day basis, and they should be the people that you trust the most to make the right decisions. My approach is to treat every decision for West Chicago as important as if I were making it for my own family.
During my term, I hope to demystify the puzzle of city hall and explain how the pieces fit together. By exposing the inner workings, we'll better understand what really should get fixed and how.
