I have lived in Carol Stream for seven years. My educational background is in horticulture and arboriculture. I have always had a strong interest in the field of parks and recreation and would be excited to serve my community as a commissioner.
I want to use my education and field experience to help bring a renewed appreciation to our parks, playgrounds, trees and native areas. I know this will be useful on the board as it will bring a new perspective.
Keeping up with the maintenance of native areas and starting to mitigate shoreline erosion will benefit our community for decades to come. This will take careful budgeting, planning and consistency. I have the experience that will allow me to oversee these projects for the community and help educate people during the process.
With the cost of things in everyday life going up, finding ways to keep park district programs affordable for members of the community will be important. We will need to continue to access grants for repairs and renovations. I will encourage park district staff to continue to look for opportunities and ideas that will assist in keeping programs affordable.
I have been promoting transparency within the community since starting my Facebook page last year. I have been going to board meetings and providing detailed summaries to help my community stay connected. I have also been educating people on all things park district from grants, to playground locations, plants, wildlife and more. This has been recognized at board meetings and complimented by current board members. I have already been promoting collegiality by working hard to earn respect and be a positive force in the community.
If you vote for me, you will be getting a high quality person who is looking to represent everyone in town. My experience working in the field and my enthusiasm for this position will make a difference. I am grateful for the support I have received from so many in town. We belong to a great community! I'm a married, 13-year resident of Carol Stream. I have three children, two boys who are 13 and 12, and a daughter that's eight.
My kids have been very involved in Park District activities. From the time they were very small until today, the kids have played football, basketball, softball, dodgeball, baseball, cheerleading, and gymnastics. Previously, I was a former teacher and athletics coach, and I've had the enjoyment of coaching my own kids in baseball, dodgeball, soccer, basketball, whenever I can.
Currently I'm the CFO of a school district. I've held that position for 13 years. In addition to being a former teacher and a coach, I was also an assistant principal during my time.
The biggest issues are the lack of space to provide adequate programs to kids and adults and communicating the excellent programs and events to all community members.
If elected, I plan to advocate for an innovate approach to add facility space as well as enhance communication efforts to all constituents.
As a school district business official, I have had extensive experience working with boards and communities. I will continue to plan to be straightforward to ensure transparency.
The Park District is responsible for public access and utilizes fund accounting, which guarantees proper resource allocation as part of the budget.
As revenue increases, we aim to allocate additional funds for capital improvements and maintain participation in programs for all age groups while fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
We will continue to be honest about this plan and request feedback.
