Closing statement.

I’m a proud West Chicago Community High School graduate, a longtime resident, and a parent of three. Recently, I served as a parent representative on the high school’s strategic planning team, working alongside educators, administrators, and community members to help set the district's long-term goals and priorities. I want to continue supporting that work as a board member by ensuring policies and resources align with the district’s long-term goals and student needs.

I bring strong problem-solving skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to make sense of complex information. I believe in asking good questions, listening to different perspectives, and making informed decisions that keep students at the center of everything we do.
Two significant challenges facing our district are persistent achievement gaps and chronic absenteeism. While our schools have a lot to be proud of, these issues require focused attention to ensure every student has the support they need to reach their full potential.

If elected, I’d advocate for policies that use data to identify achievement gaps early and allocate resources effectively, ensuring students who need extra support receive it. I’d also support collaborative efforts between families, educators, and the community to remove barriers to student success. Our district is doing great work, and I want to build on that while addressing these challenges in a way that brings people together.
I’ll work to build a good working relationship with my fellow board members by listening with respect, encouraging open discussions, and staying focused on what’s best for students. To promote transparency, I’ll advocate for clear, accessible updates on district decisions and ensure families have meaningful ways to give input, including translated materials and open forums.
School boards represent the community in education, ensuring that schools meet the needs of students and families through strong governance. If elected, I will work alongside fellow board members, the superintendent, educators, and families to set clear priorities, make data-informed decisions that support student success, and maintain open communication with the community.

I am running for this office because I am passionate about the importance of education for our children and the impact that education has on their lives. I was first elected to the D94 Board of Education in 2007 and feel that I have made a positive impact with by background in Special Education, business and finance, Community Engagement, general education including an involvement in teaching English as a second language.
I believe the most significant issues facing not just our community but the State and the Nation as a whole are fiscal challenges of a magnitude never before seen and a changed world post-Covid. Today's children are facing challenges social and emotional challenges that are unprecedented, and we have to be able to pivot immediately without ever losing focus on our goal - to provide a safe environment for a quality education that gives each and every child the ability to achieve their dreams. I strongly believe that we need to work together as a school, a board, a community, a State, and a Country to responsibly make resources available for public education and provide opportunities for all children to achieve their personal best.
An effective board is one that can bring different perspectives to the table and use those to collaboratively achieve the best outcomes for the students. A board should be honest and open with the community as to challenges, reasoning for decisions, and opportunities for community input. As an elected official with a commitment to governance, I will work to remain on task objectively, respectfully and fairly with the best interest of all students at the heart of my decisions.
I have been on the D94 Board for some years now and have always remained committed to achieving the goal of continuous improvement for all students. That cannot be achieved without carefully balancing, respecting and focusing on the needs of our staff, our families, our communities. I believe the school is at the heart of community, our students are the future we hold out with our best hopes for betterment - and we all need to work closely together to achieve the challenges that we are continually faced with - it is not always easy and there are often not easy answers - but I am determined to give my best to District 94 and our students - it is what they deserve and a commitment that I have held faithful to through my years of service.
