I have been on the board for 32 years. I have a major in Psychology, minor Elementary Education, worked as Admin Assistant for carpentry estimating department and water treatment. I have a broad background to understand teaching and behaviors, as well as the deep background in the Winfield School's history. I take my oath very seriously and work for the students and the taxpayers. I know there is only 1 chance to reach a child in their educational life and if you lose that chance, they can't build on it later. Their education is shaping them for the future. And there is so many other areas that have to be touched: being kind, sharing, anti-bullying, respect for others. This all shapes a child's future life.
A changing culture in the student body as the families of our students get more diversified. This makes a huge impact on teaching. There are languages, backgrounds, family traditions, etc. that are different and influence the way that child will learn. We need specific employees who can support these diversified children. The District and the Village approaches and views of the TIFF2 financing. The board wants the village to grow and serve the citizens. On the other hand, TIFF2 will impede the tax revenue the district will receive until 2042. While we are grappling with the changing student body, the lack of teachers available and buildings dating from 1890s, 1954 through 2004, we have large expenses. We can't wait until 2040s for our $$'s!
We respect each other and each other's viewpoints. We discuss issues and vote as a board. Our vote is our voice as this board. Since the pandemic hit, our meetings have been video recorded. They can be viewed live or by seeing the recording. We publish the agenda before the meeting, have 2 places during the meeting where visitors can speak about issues or send their concerns via email and publish the minutes of the meetings. We only use Closed Session for the topics which are listed.
I attended Winfield School as did my daughters and my 2 grandsons. I have a vested interest in the integrity and strength of the educational system which Winfield Schools provide to our children. I want them to enjoy school, be happy learning, respect their other classmates and continue to make achievements which are way above standard norms. We teach to each student's talents, levels and needs. We are a small community, family, which I am very proud of. I have attended 31 graduations with the board and am so proud to see those faces change from preschoolers to teenagers about to leave our cocoon and start a brand-new adventure in which ever high schools they join. We are Winfield. We care.
