Affordability, public safety, and education are important challenges facing our country. The cost of living in our country is too high. I am proud to have voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which capped the price of insulin to $35 and I have introduced legislation that would end housing poverty. Gun violence is an epidemic. I helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which addresses the root causes of gun violence. From early childhood to college, everyone should have access to a quality affordable education. I have fought to secure the strongest possible funding for public education, advocated for policies that address the crippling student loan crisis, college affordability, and support college-to-career programs.
I believe Congress needs to reverse the disastrous ruling by the Supreme Court on Citizens United, which has allowed independent expenditure spending to run rampant. I am proud to be an End Citizens United endorsed candidate. I strongly support the Democracy for All Amendment, which is a constitutional amendment that would in effect overturn the Supreme Court decision on Citizens United, by affirming the right of states and the federal government to pass laws that regulate spending in elections.
Under the Biden-Harris Administration, our government has taken drastic and historic action to combat the threats of climate change. I am proud to have voted for the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which is the largest investment in clean energy and climate change in our country’s history. This comprehensive law is on track to substantially cut American greenhouse gas emissions, increase reliance on clean electricity, and provide funding to make communities more resilient to climate change. However, the IRA alone does not solve our climate crisis. We need to continue to pass laws to preserve our environment, lower our reliance on fossil fuels, invest in clean and renewable energy, and protect our most vulnerable communities.
I am proud that under the Biden-Harris Administration, U.S. Foreign policy emphasizes multilateralism by heavily engaging and leading international institutions. I serve on the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee, which oversees USAID, the Department of State, and other foreign-related agencies. I am a fierce advocate for human rights and collaborate with our allies to address international issues. Our country and the international community are better served when the United States works with our partners instead of doing so alone. Representing the World’s Borough, I understand the importance of U.S. foreign policy and how U.S. humanitarian aid abroad makes a real difference.
