I am in my 4th term as the US representative for the 5th Congressional District of CT. I have passed 11 bills into law under two presidents and have returned billions of dollars in critical infrastructure projects, resources and constituent refunds to my district. I am the first black woman to serve in Congress in CT. I serve on the Committees of Education & Workforce and Agriculture. I was named the National Teacher of the Year in 2016 by President Barak Obama. I am the best candidate for this office because my lived experience as a teacher, a mother, and a caregiver informs my work in Congress. I work hard everyday to enact policy that will benefit the greatest number of people, improve equity across all systems in our country and expand opportunity to those that need it most.
I am a co-sponsor of H.R. 6529: Protecting Families from AI Data Center Energy Costs Act which aims to protect standard residential consumers and small businesses from footing the bill for the immense electrical and infrastructure needs of tech companies. Through this legislation, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) would be directed to establish standards ensuring that massive data centers—rather than regular utility ratepayers—bear the full costs of new power generation and grid upgrades required to service them. I am also a staunch supporter of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, because I know union protections and collective bargaining rights are the strongest defense workers have against arbitrary displacement by automated technologies.
I support comprehensive legislation to offer a path to citizenship for Dreamers and address flaws in the immigration system. While strong borders and national security matter, it is also imperative that everyone in this country is treated with dignity and constitutional rights are protected. I voted against the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2026, which provided funding for the Department without doing enough to rein in the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. I am also a cosponsor of the Drain ICE Act, which would rescind and repeal the $75 billion in funding for ICE via H.R.1. I am also a cosponsor of the No Anonymity in Immigration Enforcement Act, which mandates ICE agents to remove masks. Additionally, I support legislation to ensure agents wear body cameras, follow the Constitution, and complete extensive officer training. Danbury has seen a rise in ICE activity, and my office stands ready to support my constituents who need help.
I have supported legislation to expand access to educational and workforce opportunities, lower the cost of groceries, gas, and energy, and help first-time homebuyers. I also support expanding access to childcare for families, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and making healthcare more equitable. Specifically, I voted against the war in Iran which has directly contributed to increased gas prices across the country. Additionally, I am a cosponsor of the Stop Price Gouging in Grocery Stores Act, to ensure that corporations are not price gouging and passing costs onto consumers. The tariff policies of this administration have led to increased prices for everyday goods, which is why I have cosponsored the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act to prohibit the President from exercising authorities to impose duties, tariff-rate quotas, or other quotas on imports entering the United States.
I am committed to protecting the environment and addressing climate change. I successfully passed legislation to create a U.S. National Park Service protective designation for 41 miles of the Housatonic River. Additionally, I’ve championed the cleanup of brownfields, led legislation to support zero-emission school buses, and supported research on new energy sources to reduce dependence on nonrenewable resources. We must make long term investments to revolutionize our power grids. I voted in support of the Inflation Reduction Act which represents the largest federal investment in climate change mitigation and clean energy in U.S. history, committing roughly $370 billion to $369 billion in direct spending, grants, and tax incentives to lower greenhouse gas emissions. We still have more work to do to address climate change.

I am a 35+ year career service man to the citizens of the United States, residents of the district and members of my community. I proudly served 33 years in the United States Navy as a SEAL, I currently serve as a local firefighter, and I am the founder of a veteran non-profit that helps service members transition to first responder roles. The last five years of my military career were spent at the Pentagon where I worked in resourcing for Naval Special Warfare. I was born and raised in this district, I raised my family here, and I was a small business owner in my community. I know and understand the needs of the district and the people of this district. I reject the far-left views of Congresswoman Hayes and believe they don’t reflect the values of the people of the 5th district.
Data centers are the future and we must embrace them for the potential positives they offer in regards to economic growth and job growth – but we must do so with caution and appropriate regulation. Data centers offer good, high quality jobs for both business professionals and the working class; and Americans must be on the cutting edge of developing and implementing this new technology – we cannot afford to lose this battle to China or India.

As with anything new, we must adopt reasonable regulations that protect American citizens, offer a kill switch for the technology should it become dangerous, and appropriate zoning regulations that protect the serene and intimate nature of many of our suburban and rural communities.
President Trump proved we could close the border on day one and I stand in support of efforts to keep that border closed – we cannot return to the time of unchecked immigration and border crossings during the Biden Administration. I support the lawful detention and deportations of criminal illegal aliens – and I stand in support of federal law enforcement agencies tasked with enforcing the law. I would work with local legislators to repeal the TRUST Act, Connecticut legislation, that prevents ICE from detaining criminal illegals at courthouses or safe spaces and moves these apprehensions into our neighborhoods putting the illegals, federal agents, and residents at risk.
Families are hurting and are being strangled by local, state, and federal taxes. To keep the cost of living down, my first act in Congress would be to support making The Working Families Tax Cut permanent and look for ways to improve it. The tax cut is set to expire in 2029 and we must protect no taxes on tips, overtime, the increased deduction for social security, and the state and local tax write off.
We must balance the needs of environmental protection with the realities of business needs to grow our economy. Everyone wants clean air and water, everyone wants to protect the environment and fight back against the concerns that climate change presents. I will support efforts to expand clean nuclear energy, as a green energy alternative, to lessen our demand on fossil fuels and support efforts to lift regulations to expedite the process of bringing a third reactor online at Millstone.
