Luke Bronin is running for Congress because our country is in crisis, and we need leaders who will bring a whole new energy to the fight to stop corruption and build an economy that actually works for working families and the middle class. From 2016 to 2023, Luke served as the mayor of Hartford, where he tackled the city’s biggest challenges with honesty and urgency. Luke served on the anti-corruption task force in Afghanistan, where he served as a Navy intelligence officer. Luke served in President Obama’s Treasury Department and was part of the team that created the CFPB to protect Americans from predatory lending and financial abuse. He also served as General Counsel to former Governor Malloy, where he helped enact Connecticut’s common sense gun laws.
Most important, I support rules requiring data center developers to pay the full cost of building new renewable energy and modernizing electric infrastructure, so that ratepayers don’t get stuck with higher and higher electricity bills and our kids don’t get stuck with more pollution. I also support rules requiring full transparency and local involvement in the development process, and ensuring that local areas are protected from environmental harm.
I’ve outlined a plan to stop ICE’s lawlessness in the short term while working to abolish ICE and replace it with an immigration enforcement agency that respects the rule of law, human dignity, and common sense., My plan also includes pushing for comprehensive immigration reform includes responsible border security, fair and timely asylum processing, citizenship for DACA recipients, legal pathways that encourage more legal immigration, which has always been a source of strength, vitality, and renewal in America.
If Democrats win the House, we need to focus on building more housing to drive housing costs down, boosting renewable energy production to bring down utility bills, and make fundamental reforms to bring down the cost of healthcare. I’ve also laid out a detailed tax plan that is fair and simple, focused on closing ridiculous loopholes and make the wealthiest Americans and corporations pay what they owe. A fairer – and enforced – tax code will help us address deficits and debt, which will crush our economy in the long run if we leave them unaddressed.
Our planet is already reaching dangerous tipping points, and the Trump administration is making the climate crisis worse by doubling down on fossil fuels. At the federal level, I’ll fight for a massive transition to renewable energy. That includes streamlining red tape that makes it too hard and costly to build clean energy, and making smart public investments to accelerate the energy transition and modernize our energy grid. We also need to help communities adapt to extreme weather and support the research that can help us mitigate the worst effects of climate change, now and over the long term.

I am a physician, addiction medicine specialist, epidemiologist, author, and educator. I treat medically complex patients with opioid addiction, homelessness, and incarceration. I have personal life experience with poverty and homelessness. I will bring clinical judgment, scientific scrutiny, and Radical Transparency to Congress. I will ask where public money goes, whether programs work, and how policy affects the people it is meant to serve. I will listen across party lines and defend individual liberty, parental rights, and the dignity of every person. I have foreign policy experience, having contributed to the independence of the state of South Sudan with a Sudanese NGO. I produced independent education research, and I am a US Presidential Teacher (2011 US Dept of Education).
I support American leadership in AI and the computing capacity needed for national security. US security depends on multi-billion-dollar hardware, but the future of warfare is autonomous military drones, and we will not survive if we cannot adapt. We have already seen Russian nuclear capacity taken out by drones in operation "Spider's Web." Cheap drone tech by Iran has already proven that the playing field has changed. The economic impact of AI is also profound. But the impact of data centers on communities is potentially significant. I would require public reporting of a proposed data center's electricity and water demands, backup generation, land use, and effects on local rates before public subsidies or federal permits are granted. Developers must pay for infrastructure made necessary by their projects rather than shifting those costs to households. I support small modular reactor (SMR) use to fully separate data center energy use from the wider grid as preferred energy strategy.
I support lawful immigration enforcement, secure borders, and cooperation among federal, state, and local authorities when a person is already in government custody. I oppose policies that deliberately obstruct lawful federal enforcement. ICE must also follow the Constitution: people deserve due process, humane treatment, accurate identification, and prompt correction of mistakes. Enforcement must prioritize serious threats to public safety, trafficking, and repeat violations, with transparent oversight and accountability for misconduct. Congress must pass immigration reform that focuses on shared American values and security. I oppose the idea of sanctuary cities, and I oppose the use of American tax dollars going to non-citizens. My husband is a naturalized citizen immigrant from a developing nation, and I live in the immigrant community. We know exactly where the abuses lie.
I would start by making federal spending transparent, reducing fraud and waste, and restoring fiscal discipline so inflation and debt do not keep eroding family budgets. I favor a tax system that shifts the bulk of taxation to financial instruments instead of earned wages. I support employer-funded 12-week paid maternity leave fund that protects small businesses, and policies that prevent benefit cliffs when parents marry or earn more income. As a physician, I would invest in effective prevention of mental illness and addiction, which can spare families suffering and ultimately prevent massive public costs. I would also expand affordable paths to home ownership and keep parents central to decisions about their children's health and education. I am a pragmatist. I do not believe in "throwing more money" at failed programs. This incentivizes the problems we seek to eliminate. I like math. Spending smarter creates effective solutions. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
I would protect Connecticut's ability to pursue practical, measurable reductions in emissions while keeping electricity reliable and affordable. Federal policy should respect state choices, provide frameworks for long-term investments, and evaluate results rather than reward favored technologies regardless of cost. Nuclear power, including promising small modular reactors, can provide dependable low-carbon electricity as demand from data centers and electrification grows. I also support research, grid improvements, and competitive innovation that reduce emissions without shifting the costs to working families. I would scrutinize each federal grant and mandate for its actual environmental benefit and local impacts. My policy initiative called the "Green Future Initiative" is crowd sourced, hyperlocal, and prevents the cronyspending and giant unaccountable federal grants that we have seen with the Green New Deal. Our environment should not be a feeding trough for grifters and partisans.
