I have 41 years experience as a teacher/coach in CCSD. Along with my experience as a town council member, as well as serving five years as Mayor of Wright, I feel uniquely qualified to be a positive influence on the school board.
First, I feel CCSD strives daily to improve educational opportunities for all students. Second, the district works to recognize those achievements made by staff and students that showcase the district's commitment to excellence in education.
The top need in CCSD is the retention of our educators. We must begin dialogue to find new and bold strategies to keep our teachers. Secondly, it is important to seek ways to give further training to teachers who teach in subjects new to them, or outside their comfort level.

I have been in education for 35-plus years, teaching preschool to college. I have a master's in Curriculum and Instruction, and I will be able to provide insights into curriculum development and classroom needs. I am a native Spanish speaker who understands Spanish culture and will be able to help our Hispanic community and be a voice for them. I volunteer at the Family Resource Center, where I will be able to provide insight into the needs and interests of families and students. I am also a board member of the Children's Developmental Center, dealing with budget issues and the allocation of monies.
Campbell County School District has excellent schools, teachers, and amazing programs, such as AP classes, vocational training, and enrichment courses, that help our students and families.
Schools also offer a variety of clubs, sports, and arts programs that promote well-rounded student development.
Schools need to abide by the policies established for each building, which address disrespect toward teachers and incomplete work from students. Provide consequences for inappropriate behavior and support for teachers when addressing parents.
All schools must enforce an appropriate dress code for all students and not allow cell phones during class.
We need an effective school board and administration that prioritizes student achievement and handles budget needs wisely, giving priority to teacher salaries.
In addition to my 16 years on the school board, I have a degree in chemical engineering and secondary education. Being 30-year residents in the community, my husband, Scott, and I have raised three children here and they have all attended Campbell County public schools. All these things uniquely combine to give me the knowledge of how our schools system works, both state-wide and locally, and the skills to be able to analyze and work with the rest of the board to make our schools the best they can be so all students can develop knowledge and skills necessary for independent, successful lives after graduation
Our school district its able to offer many valuable experiences for students through our swimming program, Adventurarium, Planetarium, Dual Language Immersion Program, Kids Clinic, mental health initiatives, STEM labs in schools and 1 to 1 devices across the district.

3. Improve teacher appreciation, retention and recruitment

Experience: I am a former educator with 21 years of experience in various roles. I was a science teacher, a curriculum facilitator, and a professional development specialist in our district. I have been on a volunteer board for Gillette Soccer Club in some capacity for 13 years (age level rep., field scheduler, secretary, vice president, and president).
Skills: Throughout my career and other experiences, I feel that I have the following skills that would help me to be a successful board member:
- Effective communication
- Working collaboratively with others
- Being a good listener and listening to varied points of view
- Completing tasks in a timely manner
- Making educated decisions by doing research
- Passionate about education
Two areas of strength in CCSD is our student achievement and the physical and mental health of our students and staff.
Student achievement: As a district we have focused on the academic growth of our students throughout our district by utilizing our district assessment system, state testing, ACT results, and our student graduation rates. We have made great strides in these areas over the years.
Physical and mental health of students and staff: Our district has made great strides in ensuring the safety of our schools, increasing our school resource officer presence, providing health and mental health services for our students through our Kid Clinic and our school staff, and utilizing resources to support staff health and mental health.
There are several needs for our district:
1. Continue our work on school safety and improving communication with parents.
2. Continue our work with the state for a replacement of Campbell County High School.
3. Teacher recruitment and retention. Due to a nationwide shortage of teachers, we need to focus on hiring and keeping those teachers here in Campbell County. Teacher salaries and benefits should be examined to ensure we are competitive with districts in our state and nearby states.

I retired from Campbell County School District (CCSD) after 24 years of service. This service encompassed human resources, finance, and the last seven years as the administrative assistant to the superintendent and secretary to the Board of Trustees. A little under two years ago, I was appointed to fill an open position on the CCSD Board of Trustees. In addition to being a CCSD Board Trustee, I serve as the treasurer of the Campbell County Community Public Recreation District Board (Rec Mill). Other CCSD committees I serve on, or have served on in the past, include the Policy Committee, Certified and ESP Employee of the Year Committees, Audit Committee, Covid Reopening Task Force, Crisis Management Team and Strategic Planning Committee.
There are many wonderful things going on at CCSD. Educational opportunities going beyond basic are outstanding. Some of these opportunities include the Science Center, Planetarium, Mallo Camp, Dual Language Immersion, and STEM labs. Secondary students have opportunities to take college courses at no cost, as well as receive certifications through Career Technical Education (CTE) programs.
CCSD is committed to student safety and mental and behavioral health. The District partners with multiple local agencies to provide mental and crisis counseling and assessments/interventions for suicide risk and substance abuse. Numerous safety measures are in place, as well as contracting with the City and County for School Resource Officers in schools.
As we look to the next few years we must continue to pursue a remedy for the Campbell County High School facility.
It will also be important to develop artificial intelligence (AI) policies to support teachers and students in proper utilization of AI. Artificial intelligence is the fastest growing technology, and we need to take advantage of the benefits while avoiding the hazards.
To better facilitate communication and transparency, CCSD has hired a Communications Coordinator as well as updated their website. They must continue to be mindful and committed to communication with parents, staff, and the community.
