Increasing funding for OPWDD programs to address critical staffing shortages, work to expand sewer access across the South Shore, and aggressively support sustainable housing so our young people can actually afford to live here.
In the short term, expanding sewer access on the south shore to cut down on runoff. Long term, expanding renewables and gradually building up a robust, sustainable network of mass transit oriented at getting people around Long Island and not just into and out of Manhattan.
Register every citizen automatically upon their 18th birthday or when they become citizens; expand early and absentee voting options to match other, more generous states such as Washington or Oregon.
Expand options for housing to break up the lingering Robert Moses-designed unofficial segregation that persists to this day, especially in the town of Islip; ensure every zip code is receiving its proportionate share of town, county, and state resources (something that is very much lacking on the town level at least in Islip), and expanding voter rolls as in the above question. I support moving all local elections to even year cycles so minority communities have a fair say in local affairs.
