City of Albany Councilor Ward 1b

The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter.Albany City Councilors are elected by districts known as wards. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.

Never ending utility fees- This council keeps adding one fee after another rather than asking the voters to decide. Council should take the lead in rallying the Community to approve spending where we all agree we need it, like badly needed street repair.

Homelessness- A public park should not be anyones home. It’s time to balance our community’s compassion with some tough love and encourage those experiencing homelessness to work towards self-sufficiency. My experience in low-income non-profit housing will be a benefit to the Council.

Growth- Albany is a special place, we must manage growth wisely. Growth should enhance our community without placing burdens on current residents.

Remember- Public Safety is first responsibility.
The City Council is the legislative body of City government. I am most interested in bringing my history and knowledge of Ward 1 (the areas of West, downtown historic districts and North Albany) and policy making experience to influence policy decisions for the City of Albany.

There is also an advocacy role to play as a representative of your Ward. I want to help my neighbors to solve problems related to the City.
The short answer is through my own social media, The longer answer is I have developed relationships over many years in Ward 1 by being a volunteer in Greater Albany schools, at St. Mary’s, Friends of Historic Albany and the Albany Partnership for Housing. I will see and interact with constituents regularly.
