The climate crisis is on the brink of becoming a full-blown climate catastrophe. Record-shattering heat waves have struck New Jersey this year, leaving many of our outdoor workers vulnerable. I will address the climate crisis by establishing a net-zero emissions mandate by 2030. I will also introduce legislation to bring all energy industries into public ownership. The healthcare crisis, including the mental health crisis, also needs to be addressed. I will introduce a comprehensive single-payer healthcare system for all. This system will also include free, federally-protected reproductive healthcare. The genocide in Gaza is also a major challenge for many Americans. In addition to reducing the Pentagon budget by at least 50%, I will also push forward legislation demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza while imposing an arms embargo on Israel. I will also expand public housing, establish strict rent control protocols, and prohibit corporate purchasing of residential homes.
I will design and introduce a robust Green New Deal program, as we transition away from fossil fuels, to create new jobs in the emerging clean energy industries. I will also introduce legislation to cancel all student debt and direct more federal funding toward public universities. After eliminating tuition, free higher education will be available to all, promoting broad access to skilled jobs. In order to stimulate the economy and foster an inclusive job market, the federal minimum wage must also be increased, and it must be a living wage that empowers disenfranchised workers. Paid maternity leave must also be required by federal law, and if elected, I will design legislation to do so. Unionization of the workforce is a crucial step for developing an inclusive economy. I will fight for strong union protections and encourage workers to start their own, small scale labor unions.
I support measures that seek to establish a Ranked Choice Voting system federally, and measures that abolish the Electoral College in favor of popular vote. Ranked Choice Voting allows for more candidates, viewpoints, and issues to be presented to voters. We must seek out new ways to re-enfranchise voters who do not participate, and a new voting system is the first step. I will also introduce legislation to restore voting rights to anyone convicted of a crime or felony, and maintain firm protections for this critically disenfranchised population. I also support measures that introduce term limits to Congress, and measures that mandate would representation for workers, people of color, young people, and LGBTQ+ community members. Finally, I would support any measure seeking to overturn Citizens United and ban Super PACs. We can restore trust in our elections by ensuring that corporations can no longer bribe our politicians.
I believe that we must fight for demilitarization of America's southern border, as well as American demilitarization globally. Immigration reform must offer compassion to migrant workers and refugees seeking a safer home. I will also introduce much stronger protections for migrant workers who suffer from the exploitation of labor and abuse in the workplace. The US must also take responsibility for the destabilizing effects of its military around the world, but especially in Latin America. By reducing US military influence and eliminating interventions, we will reduce violence and thus reduce the need for mass emigration from destabilized countries. This is a crucial step for addressing and reforming immigration.
I would establish a plan to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 while also transferring the energy industry out of private ownership. This means undoing decades of privatization efforts that have sold America's energy infrastructure to for-profit corporations. I will then introduce a Green New Deal program that prioritizes people, planet, and peace rather than profits, creating new jobs in green energy and fostering ecological wisdom. I am also committed to downscaling the military budget as we grapple with the climate crisis, as our military alone emits more carbon and pollution than most nations. I will also end government funding for fossil fuel corporations and monoculture farming operations. Instead, I will direct this funding towards the development of Green spaces in urbanized areas, and toward community-based gardening and farming programs that return food sovereignty to the people. Finally, I will introduce legislation demanding a national fracking ban.
Abortion access has historically been severely lacking, and since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, access to reproductive care more broadly is in the crosshairs. I believe that there must be strict federal protections in place for abortion access, and that these protections should have been rolled out in 2008 when we were first promised them. Establishing full access to abortion services and reproductive healthcare is a top priority of mine. Within the single-payer healthcare system that I will introduce, all forms of reproductive care will be provided for free and nationally protected. The effort to restrict access to abortion, in any capacity, is completely unacceptable. Finally, we must also continually work hard to expand education surrounding reproductive healthcare within our local communities.
The biggest US foreign policy challenge is the ongoing US support, aid, and funding of Israel's genocide in Gaza. The US should refrain from selling military equipment to other countries in general, but this is especially the case for countries in violation international law. We have seen movements growing across the world demanding a permanent, immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and yet this government has refused to address these demands. I am committed to passing an arms embargo against Israel. Americans should never have to pay taxes toward such gross human suffering. I will also introduce measures to reduce the Pentagon budget by at least 50%, push back against the latest escalations toward a regional war with Iran, and return the power to declare war back to Congress. The profits of the military-industrial complex cannot be allowed to hijack our efforts to establish a plan for global peace and human wellbeing.
