City of Dayton Councilor {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter.Dayton City Councilors are elected at large. Voters are asked to vote for a number of candidates equal to the number of open seats. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.

Dayton is growing. We need to be sure we do everything we can to help the school district and make sure that this a diverse, creative, and welcoming place to raise a family.
I am especially interested in the development of the performing arts and education. As a City Councilor I hope to work on making Dayton a welcoming, fun, educational, and safe place for kids and their families.
Most critical is to continue making Dayton a safe place for children and families to walk, so sidewalks, safe roads, and cross walks are number one. Dayton has done a great job of getting grants for this purpose, which I hope will continue.
