The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter.Hood River City Councilors are elected at large. Voters are asked to vote for a number of candidates equal to the number of open seats. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.

Town Where You Live
Hood River
Your Experience/Qualifications
My professional journey reflects a deep-rooted commitment to working with diverse populations and stakeholders across various settings. Currently, I hold the position of President of my neighborhood Homeowners’ Association (HOA), holding a crucial leadership role in overseeing various aspects of community management and governance. This includes leadership and representation, board management, enforcement of rules and regulations, financial oversight, and community engagement.
County
Hood River
Hood River's economy relies on a unique mix of agriculture, tourism, tech, and manufacturing. Balancing economic growth with the preservation of livability is key. I would work to incentivize businesses and housing developments that better our community, bringing jobs, affordable housing, and growth, all of which are important to Hood River and its people.
Another is sustainability, both environmental and fiscal. These will both ensure our community flourishes for decades and beyond.
One thing that most interests me as a city councilor is community engagement. I will focus on active listening and seek out the diverse voices within our community to better understand everyone's unique needs & concerns.
I would aim to create a safe space, and an open-door policy to encourage ongoing discussions and feedback.
I would like our city council to be looked at as a partner with our community. Taking in feedback, making adjustments as necessary, and ensuring we are indeed, doing the work of the people, for the people.
Our city has several infrastructure needs that can be prioritized to support its growth and maintain the quality of life for residents.
The first is affordable housing. I believe it's important to support projects that address the housing shortage to keep up with demand. This can be done by incentivizing homebuilders to create more multifamily homes, and at the same time, updating our zoning laws to allow people to build ADUs on their current property for long-term rental use.
The second I will mention here is transportation. Including road maintenance, public transportation, and improving our bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Having safe and active transportation options within our city is crucial.
