City of Wilsonville Councilor {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter.Wilsonville City Councilors are elected at large. Voters are asked to vote for a number of candidates equal to the number of open seats. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.

Wilsonville has experienced breakneck growth over the past few decades. With growth comes growing pains. It is not uncommon for people to sit in traffic for 45 minutes just trying to get home from the grocery store. Between 2010 and 2023, Wilsonville (42% growth) has far outpaced the state and region (12% growth) in providing housing. This has resulted in an overburdened local infrastructure, further exacerbated by an ineffective freeway system. We cannot continue to grow at 3.5x the regional rate if we ever expect to get our infrastructure woes under control. Instead, we must focus on attracting high-paying, livable-wage jobs for our citizens into our community. There are untapped opportunities that will do just that.
I am most excited about the opportunity to interact in all aspects of Wilsonville. While campaigning for the city council, I met so many amazing people in our community and had the opportunity to hear their stories and concerns. I list my personal cell phone number and email address because I want to be approachable and I want the community to feel like the process of local government is open and transparent. I believe this helps to welcome everyone to engage in their community and have their voice heard.
The single greatest infrastructure need for the City of Wilsonville is a re-engineered I-5 Boone Bridge. This bridge represents a life line and a chokepoint all at once. If the Cascade Fault broke loose tomorrow, Wilsonville residents in Charbonneau south of the river would be cut off from the rest of the city because the bridge is not rated to withstand a sizeable earthquake. At the same time, this bridge is not large enough to handle standard traffic during rush hour times. This causes even greater traffic backups on surface streets. The city, along with our state representatives in the region, must lobby the state and ODOT to make these critical upgrades.

Traffic solutions and Affordable Housing are urgent needs. Ceaseless lobbying of Senators and federal government for funding to address Boones Bridge. Coordination with Governor's office and ODOT for implementation. Thoughtful planning of inter-city road projects. Provide SMART routes before build outs are complete. Implement city's plan for mixed housing, with incentives for services and amenities. Improving communication on hows and whys of plans.
Being an advocate for continuity of Wilsonville's shared values and ensuring solid data, research and planning serve all of our neighbors. Helping leadership consider new ways to approach existing challenges as we continue to grow.
I-5 improvements require federal money.

Managing Growth: I will hold listening sessions with our citizens; together we will develop plans to manage growth at a pace that does not overburden our existing infrastructure. Affordable Housing: I believe everyone deserves a home. I am committed to working with our county, state, and federal legislators to make Wilsonville an affordable place to live. I support a variety of solutions, including mixed-use housing, utilizing housing authorities and agencies, and community support programs. Traffic: I will prioritize solutions to I-5 traffic that clogs up our city streets. I oppose tolling and will work with our legislators to develop a comprehensive transportation funding plan. Airport: Continue to voice opposition to expansion.
I want to plan our city's future together with our citizens. I work well by bringing people together with diverse backgrounds and opinions and finding common ground and agreement. My background in health care leads me to focus on promoting projects that support healthy communities. As a city councilor I will work toward public policy development that brings healthy places to live, recreate, and thrive in Wilsonville. We will have three new members on the council, including mayor with this election. I have been able to successfully bring working groups together, small and large, to appreciate what each person brings to the table, welcoming diverse opinions. I commit to assist in developing our new council into a highly functioning team
As we consider moving forward with the Town Center Plan, I will first seek alternatives to Tax Increment Financing, or urban growth financing. I will work with developers and local, state and federal agencies to find funding alternatives. If, after careful analysis, we move forward with TIF, I will insist on transparency, and oversight to ensure that the expenditure of taxpayer dollars truly benefits the public.
