The members of a City Commission supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Commissioners pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter.Oregon City Commissioners are elected at large. Voters are asked to vote for a number of candidates equal to the number of open seats. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis. In most cities, the City Commissioners are unpaid.

Provide adequate funding for basic city services: public safety, streets and sidewalks, water and sewer, parks and the library; reduce homelessness and its impacts on the community; pursue creative solutions for housing availability and affordability.
I am most interested in being a collaborative voice on the commission, looking for creative solutions by building consensus. One of the most critical aspects of being a commissioner is establishing the city budget, as how we spend the public's money reflects our goals and aspirations for the city.
In addition to the continuing needs for maintenance and upgrades to our aging water infrastructure, our city pool is a valued asset to our community and it is well past its useful life and is too small for a city of our size. What a replacement facility should be, and how it should be paid for will need to be a robust public process.
