City of Gladstone Councilor Position 6

The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.Gladstone City Councilors are elected by numbered position. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis.

I believe the Gladstone's most urgent needs include an affordable cost of living, a community-guided approach to growth and revitalization, and an emphasis on creating a Gladstone that is safe for all people regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, ability, belief, or age. I will address these issues by seeking alternative funding for revitalization and other city projects in order to improve the city without raising taxes any more than they already will be raised. I will also partner with local environmental and social equity leaders to galvanize our community to protect and nurture what matters most - our neighbors and our planet.
As a Millennial renter and hopeful future dad of biracial children, I am interested in serving on the city council because I see the potential for Gladstone to become a truly inclusive, safe, vibrant community. I want to take that small town feeling many of us encounter when we move into the area and work to extend that to all people. I want to help protect educators' ability to teach honest history, science, and other subjects without being restricted by nationalist and religious controls. I also want to model a stubbornly hopeful leadership style that, despite our challenges, always believes in Gladstone's positive future.
Gladstone has been affected by multiple climate disasters in recent years, leading to extended power outages and other challenges. We are also in need of additional stable, popular businesses that can act as community hubs for our residents. I plan to help our city pursue grants, partnerships, and small businesses that can help us address these needs and encourage more healthy, in person connection between our residents.
