VOTE411 Voter Guide

State Representative District 28

Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/This is the link to Sample Ballots for each Town found on the Secretary of State website: https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots

I'm a Wethersfield father, Board of Education member and longtime community volunteer who has also served on the Library Board and Zoning Board of Appeals. Professionally, I work in international trade and customs compliance, where I deal every day with regulations, taxes and the real-world consequences of government policy. I have a degree in history and have traveled to 37 countries, which has given me a broad perspective on how other places approach problems. I bring practical experience, curiosity and an independent perspective, and I'm willing to question my own party when I believe Wethersfield's interests come first.
The American healthcare system is fundamentally broken, and I believe we need to rebuild it rather than continually subsidize its failures. My experience in clinical trials and medical logistics has exposed me to excessive costs, waste and a troubling lack of accountability. I have no confidence in the current insurance, pharmaceutical or regulatory systems. Healthcare is a basic need, and I favor examining Japan's model of universal coverage, private providers and standardized pricing. Connecticut should prioritize eliminating waste and reducing costs rather than automatically replacing every dollar of lost federal funding.
I would abolish the motor vehicle property tax. Connecticut residents should not have to pay an annual property tax simply for owning a vehicle. Rather than replacing that revenue with another tax, the state and municipalities should reduce unnecessary spending, improve efficiency and prioritize essential education and town services.
I oppose Flock cameras and support banning their use in Connecticut. My objection is not simply to how long the data is retained or who is currently permitted to access it. I oppose creating the surveillance database in the first place. I do not trust private companies to collect and store records of the movements of law-abiding residents, nor do I believe today's statutory safeguards guarantee how that information will be used tomorrow. Public safety should not require treating everyone as a potential suspect. I'm chagrined to quote Ben Franklin after what he did to Silas Deane, but he got this one right: those who give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither.
My top priorities are abolishing Connecticut's motor vehicle property tax and banning Flock cameras. Connecticut residents should be able to keep more of their own money and go about their daily lives without private companies creating a record of their movements.
