State Representative District 11
Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/This is the link to Sample Ballots for each Town found on the Secretary of State website: https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots

Healthcare is something we currently fund on the back end where insurance premiums go up or the government funds hospitals when individuals cannot or do not pay. Healthcare is also the leading cause of bankruptcy in our country, so we need to flip the script, and provide the care and coverage on the front end so everyone can receive the care they need without losing everything they have worked for. We have an opportunity to work with insurance companies to provide that care to all residents, but that will be an uphill climb and a fiscal investment.
This is a really complex struggle with autonomy and inequity. We want towns and Boards of Education to be able to set their own standards, but the gross disparities between the have and the have nots it growing and it is inexcusable. We could go with a regionalization approach, or increase the taxes on top earners and increase the ECS formula to provide more funding where it is needed the most. We also need to provide districts with more extensive relief for special education costs, our students deserve the services they need, and this shouldn't hinder the districts ability to provide other services to the community.
The Flock camera's grossly violates the individuals ability to be anonymous while traveling, and the clear violations of people tracking other people without a criminal case clearly is a violation of autonomy and safety. I am not opposed to camera's in general, but what we are doing with the data and the rules on how to access the information clearly requires very stringent parameters. I think giving police the ability to use camera's to follow a suspect in a criminal investigation is a good thing, but should be clearly tied to criminal investigation.
Education, providing every child with a high quality education, reducing the disparity between districts, and providing the resources for districts to provide special education without reducing other programing.
