We should have reproductive freedom. A woman should be in control of her body and be able to make her own choices. Women also need to have the right to use IVF or birth control. Having a restrictive law like Iowa's new law may prevent new physicians from coming to Iowa to practice and women are already struggling to find healthcare. We need to be clear and protect women and their choices to have or not have families and to get the healthcare they need when they need it.
We need to work to raise the minimum wage, support small businesses, and unions. We also need to look at finding ways to support Iowans such as expanding the tax free holiday. We can also help Iowans save money by helping with childcare costs and cutting waitlists for needed services (waivers for people with disabilities is an example of this).
Gun violence is a horrible fact of life today. We must find ways to solve this problem. I think we need to make sure there are laws providing safe storage of guns. Also we should continue to work on increasing mental health services. I think better communication between schools, police, mental health providers and parents is definitely needed. Two more things we need are better response times and need to make sure police, and our communities are educated and ready if violence breaks out and we need to make sure we are able to provide services in the aftermath of events as well.
Our elections are safe but if we were to improve them I think we need more access so all people can vote.
We need to create a more resilient infrastructure so we can be prepared. We also should look into steps to reduce our carbon emissions. We need to be careful approving pipelines. Last of all we need to work with agriculture and make sure we are working to clean up our water and air quality. I'm very concerned about the high rates of Cancer in Iowa.
