I am a 22-year veteran English teacher and the 2023 Gulf Breeze High School Teacher of the Year. I've taught in four states and five high schools, with experience in both inner-city and suburban schools. As a 20-year coach, I've been named PNJ Boys’ Lacrosse Coach of the Year four times. I have three successful children who graduated from Escambia County schools and a fourth who is a current high school junior. Married for 29 years, I was also a stay-at-home dad for eight years.
Teachers and staff must feel valued. • STAY Interviews: Conduct regular interviews with current staff to understand their needs and improve retention. • Tiered Inservice: Implement a tiered professional development system to provide ongoing education and growth opportunities tailored to different experience levels. • Micro-Credentials: Offer monetary incentives for targeted, short-term training programs that allow teachers to develop specialized, purposeful skills and advanc
We must employ common sense with parental involvement. With only 44% of Escambia County third graders reading at grade level, students need more access to books, not less. Children need to be reading. However, parental involvement is crucial. Parents should engage in their children's education. Teachers should communicate selection rationale to parents, provide alternate choices for objectionable in-class materials, and facilitate parent-child discussions on library book selections.
Safety, the foundation of Maslow’s hierarchy, takes many forms, but cyberbullying is a major concern. Students use phones to harass and plan fights. An effective solution is to keep phones off throughout the school day, not just during class, which will immediately reduce incidents. Middle schools need two deans, two assistant principals, and at least three guidance counselors to address these issues adequately.
Community Involvement I have been proud to serve Parent University as Board of Director Chair; Board Member - Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Board Member - ARC Gateway; Board Member - Pensacola Mess Hall; Board Member - Valerie's House Pensacola; Member - UWF College of Business Advisory Council; Speakers Chair and Paul Harris Fellow - Cordova Rotary.

Having 10+ years of leadership experience in several nonprofit organizations that directly influence education (Big Brothers, Mess Hall, Valeries House and Parent University) - I am uniquely prepared to guide our school system forward. Moreover, I have a vision rooted in accountability, a strategic plan, and benchmarking that will ensure a school district where students love to learn and teachers love to teach.
When elected, I promise to take three approaches to have the very best teachers in the state. First, I promise to address pay and compensation at every opportunity. Second, I will fund professional development. And third, I will create a sense of pride/autonomy by empowering teacher subject matter experts on a variety of topics.
People who work to ban books are never the good guys! I will promote literacy by any advisory council or workshop possible that facilitates and increases reading throughout our public schools.
My views on safety are as follows: There should be law enforcement in every school, we should carefully address distance students walk to/from bus stops, an advisory council should continually address bullying/mental health challenges. I also advocate for policy that protects young people with technology/cell phones.
