Personal Biography Eli Woody is a former teacher who currently works at an educational nonprofit. Eli and his wife Amy live in Kansas City, Kansas. Eli was raised in Topeka by parents who have long family histories in civil service and community work. His father, Elgin III ("Coach Woody") was the Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Topeka. Eli believes that "same old, same old" in politics is not working; the only way to come up with working class solutions is to put more working class people in public office.

In short, I care. Even if an issue does not directly affect me personally, I can empathize. I listen to constituents and elevate their voices to advocate for real, everyday solutions. I'm a former public school teacher, which taught me how to listen to the needs of others and advocate for policy and solutions that helps meet their needs (students, parents, community members). I am willing to work with any reasonable Representative to come up with solutions for issues facing working class Kansans every day.
Expanding access to healthcare (Medicaid expansion), Protecting women's reproductive choice, fully funding public education (including special education). I plan to vote for legislation like expanding Medicaid. I plan to block any legislative attempts to infringe upon women's reproductive freedom. And I will work with educators and support staff to come up with a budget that meets the needs of the current state of Education.
I plan to continue utilizing social media to summarize what I have been up to lately in the Statehouse and communicate in a simplified manner some of the complex details of proposed or passed legislation. Gut and go as a process is unethical. Constituents deserve the right to hearings and floor debates, not sneaky moves that hide irrelevant issues in legislation.
We need to do everything we can to remove obstacles that disenfranchise voters or make it more difficult for them to vote. Some politicians deflect from this by committing themselves instead to "fighting voter fraud" or "ensuring election integrity." I am committed to creating an easy and equitable voting process for all. Just because voting is easy for some does not mean it is easy for all, especially in Wyandotte County.
