My priorities are to improve student achievement, champion career and technical schools, and enhance parental involvement. I believe every student deserves access to a high-quality education that prepares them for future success, whether in college or a career. Additionally, fostering strong relationships between parents and schools is essential for creating a supportive educational environment.
I bring a unique combination of experience as a former teacher, coach, and active parent. My tenure as President of the PTO has given me a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within our schools. My background in education, coupled with my firsthand experience navigating the school system as a parent, equips me with the insight and passion needed to advocate effectively for our students, teachers, and parents.
One of the most pressing challenges is ensuring proper educational opportunities across the district. I would address this by advocating for increased funding and resources for underperforming schools, implementing evidence-based teaching practices, and promoting programs that support diverse learning needs. Another critical issue is teacher recruitment and retention, which I plan to address by advocating for competitive salaries, professional development opportunities, and a supportive work environment.
To improve teacher recruitment and retention, I propose offering competitive salaries and benefits, providing ongoing professional development, and creating a positive work environment where teachers feel valued and supported. Additionally, implementing mentorship programs for new teachers and recognizing the achievements of our educators can help build a robust and dedicated workforce.
Student transportation is a vital aspect of our school system. I plan to conduct a thorough review of current transportation policies and procedures to identify areas for improvement. Ensuring all buses are equipped with the latest safety features, training drivers, and establishing clear communication channels between parents and transportation officials will help address safety concerns. Optimizing bus routes and schedules can also improve efficiency and reduce student wait times.
To increase the availability of affordable housing for district employees, the school district should consider leveraging public-private partnerships. Collaborating with local developers and businesses can help create housing specifically designed for educators and staff. By providing incentives such as tax breaks or expedited permitting processes, the district can encourage the development of affordable housing units. Additionally, partnering with local government agencies can facilitate access to land and funding opportunities. These collaborative efforts can help ensure that district employees have access to quality, affordable housing, ultimately aiding in teacher recruitment and retention.
Improving outcomes for vulnerable student populations requires a multi-faceted approach. I would advocate for increased funding for special education programs, mental health services, and after-school programs. Implementing targeted interventions and support systems, such as tutoring and mentoring, can help address the specific needs of these students. Fostering an inclusive school environment that celebrates diversity and promotes equity is crucial for their success.
Including Chaplains in schools should be approached carefully, considering our student population's diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. If implemented, it should be done in a way that respects the separation of church and state, ensuring that all students feel included and respected regardless of their beliefs. Chaplains could provide valuable support for students' emotional and spiritual well-being, but their role should be clearly defined and non-denominational.
One of the unique issues in our district is the rapid population growth, which strains our school infrastructure and resources. To address this, I propose prioritizing constructing new schools and expanding existing facilities to accommodate the increasing number of students. Additionally, enhancing the district's focus on career and technical education can provide students with valuable skills and pathways to high-demand jobs, addressing our community's educational and economic needs. Engaging with local businesses and community organizations to support these initiatives will be crucial for their success.

I believe in inclusion. There is no one size fits all for this situation, which is why we have a board that collectively work together to resolve issues like these.
