Richfield City Council Member Ward 1

As local legislators who sometimes have executive power, council members can propose ordinances, set administrative policy, and authorize the budget proposed by the mayor. They oversee all city activities, including city services, programs, licensing, and public safety. I am running for Richfield City Council - Ward 1 because Richfield has been a welcoming and supportive place to thrive for my children and me for over ten years. I hope to make Richfield more accessible for more people with greater diversity. This will take creativity, understanding the challenges people face everyday, and engaging with different viewpoints in cooperative ways. I have the experience and skills to do this. As Richfield’s next City Councilmember - Ward 1, I will work to keep Richfield the “Urban Hometown” that it is today, while expanding affordable housing and improving economic opportunities for everyone.
1. Encourage people to vote “Yes” on the referenda for the funding of renovations to Wood Lake Center, Richfield pool and Richfield community center and making sure that those funds are spent wisely.

2. Increase the amount and variety of affordable housing in Richfield, while increasing Richfield’s diversity and protecting rights of tenants.

3. Increase economic development in Richfield, with expansion of economic opportunities for those who have not benefited from past economic development.
As a public interest attorney, I’ve represented parents seeking custody rights, low-income clients seeking to improve their financial situation, and veterans seeking housing. I’m proud of my current work at MACV helping veterans avoid homelessness, since my father, my son and I served in the military. I’ve learned how difficult life is for those with insufficient housing and economic opportunities. I will bring this experience to the Richfield City Council to improve access to housing and jobs.
Transparency and accountability in government depends on officials following applicable rules of ethics and codes of conduct. It also requires keeping the public aware of the City Council’s actions and making information easy to access. I will work to build trust with the people of Richfield in every action I take as a council member. Making information publicly accessible as much as possible will also be foremost for me.
